1. How effective is the
combination of your
main product &
ancillary task?
2. Comparison to real
media product
TITLE
I placed the title of
my poster beneath
the image, similar to
„Mirrors‟. I also used
the red font
colour, although
mine was slightly
darker. I chose to
have the dark red as
it linked very well to
the meaning of my
title as it represents
blood and danger.
STRAPLINE
I added a strapline
onto my
poster, similar to
„Mirrors‟. My strapline
„From the Director of
Paranormal Activity‟
which will enable my
film „The Tormented‟
to become more
popular as
Paranormal Activity
was a great success
CREDITS
I included credits underneath the title
which consisted of those who were
involved in the making of the film
such as the producers and the caste.
This enabled the target audience to
get an idea of who is to be seen in
the movie and so on.
IMAGE
„Mirrors‟ used a close
up shot image of the
possible
victim, showing fear
through her eyes and
mouth wide open.
However, in my
magazine I used a
medium shot image of
the victim holding a
candle. I also edited
the eyes of the victim
and make it red
representing danger
and death.
DATE
The „Mirrors‟ included a
date release for their film
which they released in the
summer time. Whereas I
chose to release mine in
October time as this is the
time of Halloween, which
would make it more creepy.
TAGLINE
I chose to have a
rhetorical question in
my tag line, “Where
will you stand when
the battle begins?” to
get the audience
involved and thinking.
This would make the
audience want to
know more about the
movie and want to go
and watch it.
MARKETING
I would market my film
by placing my poster on
buses, bus stops around
the cinema‟s and so on.
This allow a wide range
of people to be aware of
the film as poster‟s will
3. MASTHEAD
I used the original
red masthead
used in all the
empire
magazines, along
with the price and
date placed
between the „M‟ in
small white font.
BANNER
My strapline was
similar to the one
on the „Twilight‟
magazine, except
that I included
different names of
movies so it
wouldn‟t be exactly
the same. I created
a black rectangle
for the strapline
where I then wrote
the text in green
and yellow font, to
make it stand out
more. The „Free
poster‟ would
attract the
audience to buy
the magazine as it
includes posters of
successful movies
TITLE
I placed the film title
of my movie „The
Tormented‟ above
the tagline and
underneath the
image to show it‟s
importance. I made
the font of it in red
capitals to make it
more visible in
contrast to it‟s
background colour.
IMAGE
Both the images in the
magazines are mid
shots, where the character
is looking toward the
audience. The Twilight
image shows that the eyes
of the model are not very
human like and his skin is
very pale so there is
something about it that‟s
not normal. My image is of
a girl with a creepy smile
BARCODE
I included a
barcode on my
magazine just like
the Twilight
magazine, to
make my cover
look more
professional and
realist. I place my
barcode on the left
hand side below
the cover line.
BANNER
I included another
banner at the
bottom, which the
Twilight magazine
did not have. In that
extra banner I listed
names of other
movies which have
been very
successful.
COVER LINES
I included my
cover lines on the
left hand side of
the page similar to
Twilight, as I did
not want break the
conventions. The
cover line included
a brief of what was
inside the
4. BrandingCOLOUR
For my poster I chose
to use the colours red
and white throughout.
The red which
represents danger of
the villain in the
movie, and white
representing purity and
innocence of the victim.
I chose to change the
colour scheme on my
cover and used
red, green, yellow.
Although the green and
yellow aren‟t really
colours relating to
horror, I thought I‟d use
these colours to make
my magazine look more
unique from others.
However, I still used the
stereotypical red
colour, as I did not want
to break the horror
genre.
FONT
When creating my
poster I used the same
font throughout the
entire poster. The two
things I changed in the
font was the size and
colour of the font.
When doing the
credits, we made the
font size the smallest
as when we analysed
magazine posters the
credits was the
smallest font on the
posters. On my cover, I
used a completely
different font from my
poster apart from the
title font which I kept
the same. Some of the
important information
IMAGES
In my poster I included
a mid shot image of
the victim in our
trailer, who is holding a
candle. The light from
the candle brings out
slightly the characters
facial features along
with the black
background which
makes that horror
effect. I also gave
character red eyes to
show danger and that
she could be the
possible victim.
On the cover I included
another mid shot
image, which is a very
common type of
images used in an
EMPIRE magazine.
This image was of the
victim who had blood
all over her face with a
grin which is quite
unusual.
Therefore, shows that
TARGET AUDIENCE
My target audience for
film poster and cover
are teenagers, which I
found from conducting
my research at the
very beginning of the
project. Therefore I
made sure that
everything I included
on my poster and
