Increase Student Achievement through Differentiation and Review

We will present strategies that engage students in all levels of thinking and higher level questioning. Differentiated instruction in the math classroom will be highlighted as well. Two major topics will be an EOG review station plan and using cartoons to encourage reading and writing in the math content area.

-Warm-up -Literacy in the Math content -Costa’s Levels of Questioning Math Comics
1. What do you observe in this cartoon?2. Explain why the people have to go to math class.3. Imagine you were the instructor, what would you have the people in the cartoon do?
1. Describe what you see in the cartoon. 2. Explain what is wrong with the math in the cartoon. 3. Predict what will happen if the man jumps using the bungee cord.
1. List three things that you see in the comic strip.2. How would you classify each type of student?3. Hypothesize why she is giving him the wrong answers.
