4. For three consequtive years, America
managed to top the list despite having a
decrease in the amount of food imported by
Malaysia, from 1350 million ringgit in 2008 to
1100 and 950 million in 2009 and 2010
respectively.This is probably due to prolonged
floods and extreme weather in America.
Food import from India, however, shown an
uprise in number from 400 to 550, to 650 million
ringgit over three years. These increase in food
import in 2010 may have been influenced by
more grains imported due to weaker Rupee.
5. China recorded a rather similar trend with
India. The food imported from China
increased two-fold from the lowest 200 in
2008 to 600 million ringgit in 2010. This is due
to the fact that China premier’s visit
enhances bilateral ties between KL and
Beijing.
In comparison, Malaysia have decreased
their food import from Japan as smaller
gains by importers due to stronger Yen,
from 1000(2008) to 760 million ringgit in 2010.
