FARMERS MARKET: If you’re looking for a way to save money while living
in Japan, buying produce from local farmers is a surefire way to do just that.
A great way to find local or organic produce is by visiting a farmer’s market.
One of the things about farmer’s markets is that the produce is often
incredibly cheap compared with prices at the supermarket. You might come
away with bags full of fruit and vegetables for around 1000 yen or less. Of
course, you can’t find every type of fruit or vegetable at a farmer’s market,
because most of the produce will be whatever is in season and grown in
Japan (which isn’t a bad thing at all).
RECYCLE SHOPS: Everything in Japan is expensive, but if you want to
save some money, these 2nd hand shops (or recycle shops) may be the
way. Bargaining and haggling is not the done thing in Japan, so don’t expect
much of a discount if you don’t like the price. Recycle shops are a great
place to find every-day items, used clothes, sports & hobby equipment, and
TONS of genuine Japanese items that make great souvenirs or keepsakes.

Yabusame An archer on a running horse shoots three special "turnip-headed" arrows successively
at wooden targets. A red parasol is displayed if the rider hits the target. The history of Japanese horseback
archery dates back to the 4th century, however, women mounted archers are a modern innovation. Every
spring in Towada, women from around the area demonstrate their marksmanship while balancing on a
galloping horse!
Sakura Hirosaki Park is one of Japan's best cherry blossom spots. With its abundance of over 2500
trees, cherry blossom tunnels, petal filled moats, numerous pleasant picnic areas, rental rowing boats, many
varieties of cherry trees and illuminations in the evenings, it feels like multiple great cherry blossom spots
combined into a single one.
