Researching into film trailers, I found that key conventions include: - Different scenes sequenced together to sum up storyline - Quick shots to demonstrate the setting - so people can get an idea of the genre ,[object Object]
 Clearly stating the protagonist
Advertising the film release and the producers and distributorsResearching into film posters, I found that key conventions include: - Illustrating protagonist/s - Producer logo and distributor logo is shown - Actors names are present and clearly shown especially if they are A- LIST stars ,[object Object],[object Object]
Our storyline The film begins with flashbacks from the past showing a young girl neglected through various stages of her childhood, having had lost both her parents from a young age and then had been mistreated by her abusive uncle who she had been staying with. The struggle continued as she grew up, being tormented by her peers throughout her time at school where her rage and depression had continually been building up. As it proceeds to the present date in time, we are presented with the woman, still scorned by her past however instead of keeping closed off and depressed, her attitudes had changed to anger and hatred towards others and in an attempt to make a better life for herself, she marries wealthy men knowing that she will divorce them shortly in order to gain money from her ‘husband’ and will never have to see them again. The woman continues to clear the accounts of her unknowing victims until one point in time where she genuinely falls in love with a man who she had intended to divorce for his money. All is going well until she is encountered by last ex-husband. Knowing the kind of woman she really is, he intends to seek revenge upon her by threatening her in saying that she must clear her current lovers’ bank account and give the money to him, or else he will kill him. The woman is now faced with the dilemma of whether she should allow the death of her lover, or clear her lovers’ bank account and be left to deal with the consequences.
Our story line therefore relates to the thrillers and dramas we have researched into as our film describes emotional baggage of a young women and the mysterious and scandalous way in which she manages to rob every guy she marries... Mystery and violence element relate to thriller genre, whilst emotions such as sadness , passion and memory relate to drama STEREO TYPES Like in sleeping with the enemy, our protagonist is a woman who is haunted by her past, and dominated by an ex – lover therefore a victim. In traditional films the victim was always the female, and the dominant character was the male This is shown in our trailer when Ray threatens Lisa, and through the memories of past times of happiness with her ex boyfriend. Lisa threatened by her ex Protagonist Julia Roberts ‘frightened’ in the bath
PROPS Props in thrillers (depending on the sub genre) are usually weapons i.e. guns knives, or something to do with a mystery i.e. Cash, keys, blood, a letter. In drama genres props are more likely to be different costumes to represent the characters emotions at the time or something like a phone to show communication between characters – as drama genre usually looks at interaction and relationships between characters. We’ve used the phone and a letter as props to create suspense and add mystery – as Lisa receives a random phone call from her ex husband, which is evidently unexpected whilst the letter is divorce papers from her previous marriage hinting part of the problem and the reason her ex is calling her

Editing - When looking at editing in drama and thriller trailers we noticed a lot of : - Flashbacks (so sequencing scenes in order to make clear the past is being shown) usually using a fade out and fade in technique - Slow motion to create suspense and slow down time to make things seem more dramatic - A series of quick cuts to show dramatic action and create tension and anticipation, with the end of the trailer left at a cliff hanger We used all of these concepts in our own trailer and even left some clips without out sound so that the image just played for more effect. We also sequenced scenes so that present was shown and then past was shown and it kept swapping like that so the audience can understand that something happened in the past that had lead Lisa in to her current situation. We added a twist by editing the ‘past’ scenes in black and white to make it clear this was the past and add that ageing, memorial element.

Conclusion Our media product does comply with the codes and conventions of the genres – thriller and drama, through the use of editing, props, sound used and characters used, however I do not feel our media product has challenged or majorly developed in any way, although it clearly distinguishes its genre
