1. As part of the on-going mission of Kansas State
University to learn about the resilience of military youth
and their families, parents and their campers may
voluntarily choose to be involved in a simple on-site
interview about the impacts and benefits of
deployment and military commitment. More
information is available upon registration.

Express Yourself: Teen Camp
(ages 13-17)

Purple on the Prairie: Family Camp
(children must be school-age; K-12)
AUGUST 16-18 (3pm-3pm)
Registration due by August 2
Camps are open to all branches of military
service members, active and reserve
components. Geographically dispersed
youth, families will have priority on a first-
come-first-served basis.
A non-refundable registration fee of
$30/per person is due upon submission of
registration.
Travel expenses to and from the camps are
the responsibility of the camper/family.

2. Express Yourself: Teen Camp helps build
expressive communication skills and
long-lasting friendships through science, nature,
arts and fun camping activities (horseback riding,
canoeing, swimming) at the beautiful
Rock Springs 4-H Center, south of Ft. Riley, KS
(www.rocksprings.net). Trained and supervised
Kansas State University students lead campers
through learning projects. Teens organize the
Express Yourself Showcase when parents
and family members get to see campers share
what they learned during camp.
Purple on the Prairie: Family Camp
In a relaxing setting located on the Kansas high
plains families spend time together in fun and
educational activities. Parents learn about
parenting, while children learn about healthy
habits and their resilience. Well-trained and
supervised Kansas State University students and
faculty facilitate activities which culminate in a
Purple on the Prairie Showcase where
families demonstrate what they discovered about
their family and themselves during camp.

Details -
The camp is organized for up to 40 adults and
40 children. Children must be school age
(K-12) to participate due to restrictions
determined by the funder.
This residential camp is planned to be
relaxing, fun as well as educational. Parents
will learn more about parenting and
resilience. Children learn about health, science
and making friends.

More than 700 acres in the scenic Kansas Flint
Hills, the natural surroundings at Rock Springs
stimulate reflective thinking and provide an
atmosphere for the renewal of relationships.
Recreational activities, good food and great staff
make Rock Springs the ideal place to end a busy
summer.
