20 July The 20th Annual Prairie Run 10-5-2: Registration is $12 Now through July 5 and $15 after. Same day registration
is not available. The Prairie Run consists of three different races, a 10-mile, 5-mile and 2-mile race. Each race is open to all

25 July Kaw Valley Rodeo Military Family Night: 6th Annual Kaw Valley Rodeo located at Cico
Park on Thursday Night, 25 July First Come, First Serve while supplies last for Picnic and
tickets. Picnic starts at 5:30pm-7pm for the first 400 guest. Rodeo starts at 8pm. Must have
military ID card to get tickets. Once the tickets are gone there is a special for military at $5
per ticket to purchase at the Rodeo booth. Military kids 13 and under are free with a canned

5. 27 July -Operation Homefront Back To School Brigade Back Packs: Back to School Brigade Registration is coming up soon!
Follow the link below to register your active duty Military school age (k-12) dependent child to receive school supplies at
one of the official Operation Homefront Events Locations. Backpacks will be made available to children of deployed,
wounded, and active duty service members in the ranks of E-1 though E-6. You must register at this website below for

6. Rock Springs Summer Camps For Youth and Families In Kansas: @ 4-H Center off Hwy 77 See Flyer below: Camps are
open to all branches of military service, members, active and reserve components. Additional information (including

Camps are organized by Kansas OMK, K-State Research and Extension, and the Institute for the Health and Security of

Express Yourself! Camp for Military Youth on the Plains Ages:Youth 13-17 Number of Campers:40 Camp Format: Youth
Residential Featured Activities:
In addition to Swimming, Horseback riding and Canoeing, campers will express themselves through Art,Improv,
Photography and Nature projects. “ExpressYourself” focuses on helping teens build communication and life skills to
creatively express their experiences as members of military families, and build long-lasting friendships in the process.
From Thursday to Saturday afternoon, campers will be involved in a fun mix of camp recreation activities, creative
projects (e.g., photography, arts, improve, science) and team-building. Kansas State University camp counselors will lead
campers through experiential learning projects that highlight sharing, processing, and applying resilience and
communication skills. The camp culminates on Saturday, August 10 with the Express Yourself "showcase" when campers
exhibit their camp projects, arts, improves and photography for parents, military and university partners.

Purple on the Prairie: Military Family Camp
Ages: Parents With Youth (K-12)
Number of Campers:40 adults; 40 youth
Featured Activities: In addition to Swimming, Horseback riding and Canoeing, families will strengthen their
Communication and Resilience skills through Arts, Physical activity and Nature projects all set in the natural beauty of the
prairie. The theme of the "Purple of the Prairie" camp is the Purple Prairie Clover which is a hardy, native wild flower that
thrives on the prairie in times of drought, and heat due to its deep tap-root. The flower is representative of the “deep
roots” that stabilize military families during times of transition and challenge. This three-day camp provides families with
a relaxing setting, well-trained staff and engaging activities (e.g., yoga, arts, natural science projects, games) that give

accomplished artists. Entry submissions to the Region and Department of Army (DA) level will

Blue Star Museums Offer FREE Admissions: Looking for something to do this summer? How
about visiting one of the many museums which are part of the Blue Star Program. Active Duty
get in FREE!! And can bring up to 5 Family members with them! Check out the list of KS and
KCMO museums.
Manhattan Public Library, located at 629 Poyntz Ave in Manhattan This year they are doing a
DIG into reading summer program for the kids. You can keep track of your children's reading
and they will earn prizes which include new books and gift certificates for ice cream. Go to

Reading Kick-Off party at the library on Saturday, June 1st, 10:00-12:00. Come out with
library loot, and looking and talking like a pirate. "Aaaaargh!" When you arrive, get a treasure
map to lead you around the library for games, knowledge and treasures. All ages can register
for the free summer reading program to earn prizes all summer long. Kids can watch a pirate
puppet show and/or create pirate disguises in the auditorium. Don't forget your library card
(or sign up for one that day) so you can include a pile of books in your bag of treasures.
