authors of fiction use or alter history.
Essential Questions:
1. What qualities did Lyddie possess that helped her to endure
the hardships presented while working in the factories during
the Industrial Revolution?
2. How would your life be different if you had been born during
the time of the Industrial Revolution?
Instructional Learning Strategy: THINK-PAIR-SHARE
Learning Objective: The students will complete an anticipation
guide after reading an exciting excerpt from the novel Lyddie.
Description:
Students will listen to an excerpt from the novel Lyddie, read by
the classroom teacher. The teacher will then show students a series
of images of the Lowell Mill factory. Following the reading and
viewing of the images, students will independently complete an
anticipation guide, making predictions about the essential ideas of
the novel. Students will then pair off with a partner to discuss the
anticipation guide, discussing the feelings, and predictions that
each has prior to reading the novel. The final aspect of this activity
will be to discuss as a whole group the ideas that each student has
about the statements on the anticipatory guide.
*Following completion of the novel, the anticipation guide will be
returned to each student to compare individual opinions to that of
the author.

Lyddie think pair share lesson

Teacher: Mrs. Winfield-Corbett Grade: 7 Subject: English/Reading Duration: 40 minutes Standards: CCSS.RL.7.9- Compare and contrast a fictional portrayal of a time, place, or character and a historical account of the same period as a means of understanding how authors of fiction use or alter history. Essential Questions: 1. What qualities did Lyddie possess that helped her to endure the hardships presented while working in the factories during the Industrial Revolution? 2. How would your life be different if you had been born during the time of the Industrial Revolution? Instructional Learning Strategy: THINK-PAIR-SHARE Learning Objective: The students will complete an anticipation guide after reading an exciting excerpt from the novel Lyddie. Description: Students will listen to an excerpt from the novel Lyddie, read by the classroom teacher. The teacher will then show students a series of images of the Lowell Mill factory. Following the reading and viewing of the images, students will independently complete an anticipation guide, making predictions about the essential ideas of the novel. Students will then pair off with a partner to discuss the anticipation guide, discussing the feelings, and predictions that
  • 2. each has prior to reading the novel. The final aspect of this activity will be to discuss as a whole group the ideas that each student has about the statements on the anticipatory guide. *Following completion of the novel, the anticipation guide will be returned to each student to compare individual opinions to that of the author.
