Initial Ideas
The following proposals are developed by each individual member of the group. For the final proposal we will incorporate the different ideas and take into account everyone’s suggestions for the final proposal for the music video.
Nathan BowenProposal
My idea for the music video is a narrative based music video telling a story of a 100m sprinter training for a competition, as the song we have chosen by our artist is about chasing your dreams and not letting go it is a good concept to follow the ideas behind the song, the runner is training hard to achieve his dream of being the fastest man in the world, and winning a gold medal in the Olympics. The video would start with him looking at pictures of previous gold medal winners at the Olympics, then moving to him preparing for training and then doing speed and endurance training on the track. The story would then move to him training in rain and at night to show his determination and commitment with the final shots of him preparing and finishing with him in the race on the ready about to begin looking down the track and then the shot fading out.
Muna Alawi Proposal
4438650-1905My idea was based on a narrative featuring two characters, a male and a female.
-6667578105It would start off with a close-up of two hands clutching on together then in slow-motion the hands slipping away.
-13525504044953209925251460 When the artist says “get set go” the two characters separate and run off into different directions followed by a split screen.
3264535902970The camera follows their movement as they run through a long isolated narrow road. Various close-up shots of their body and feet in motion will be used to contrast the two characters. With reference to the lyrics quot;
time doesn’t wait, why wait for timequot;
the male character looks at his watch then takes it off and throws it on the road while he continues to run.
It would also contain other storylines featuring the two characters to portray their struggle.
-28575142240
It could contain flashbacks of the couple in the middle of a heated argument and scenes of domestic abuse. At the end of the song the couple run into each other and they hug each other. A close-up of their hands grasping each other once again as the song goes quot;
don’t let go, don’t let go...quot;
and as the song fades out, the screen also fades to black.
Amit C Proposal
3324225363664519050188595Mazeyboi - Don't Let Go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ0DatSyzzgThe general concept of this song is aspiring to dreams and not letting go of your goals. This is a motivational song and believe the video would have to strengthen this concept through the shots, cuts, lighting, movement etc. From this, I have sourced my proposed ideas; The main shot of this would be Mazeyboi on a live performance reciting the lyrics. This is obviously to show the audience the artist and also to make it more interactive, to see the artist as well as hear him it is more interesting for the audience and they are more likely to concentrate on the lyrics/meaning of the song. In his performance he will be in many different costumes standing in front of nice views like the central of London where there are many bright lights and eye catching things to look at. However a performance alone with only Mazeyboi may become boring for the audience to watch, this is why I suggest a background of people with him, some playing instruments, some singing and others just casually dancing. This would make the performance more in synchronization with the song and it would also make the video more visibly enjoyable with more then one person to watch.
When hearing the song I imagined much motivational activity, such as sport playing. The most suitable two sports I thought of were running, and boxing. The runner would be perfect for this song as it seems like a free and happy song, and when people run it is like they have liberty, which is emphasised within the lyrics, like at 0:43 Mazeyboi says; 'if you’re on your mark, get set, go!'. Through out the song the runner would be running on a track until 3:26 when the final chorus comes in, this is when the race would be over and the runner breaks through the band at first place. It could be the runner or I could also have the shot of a boxer training up for a fight, or perhaps even in the middle of a fight. Getting ready for the fight, or waking up in the morning getting ready to train would be perfect to fit from 0:00 - 0:21 seconds before the beat drops. This would consist of a trainer shouting at the boxer while he is jogging on the spot/throwing jabs at a bag. At 0:21 seconds, a hard punch would hit the bag and this is when the beat would drop. It could also possibly be quick shots of someone waking up in the morning, getting ready and going to their training place, and then at 0:21 seconds it would be the same punch to the bag which would emphasize the drop, and the real beginning of the song.This would be one of the shots that is cut to, and would be the narrative within the song. I thought that a narrative should be used as from our research we can see that the majority of people would watch video's repeatedly if they had some action or a story line within it. Through out the video there will be many short shots slotted in of random views that would look good. For example, rain drops inside of a puddle, or reflections of lights on a lake, or artistic graffiti on the walls. These are the type of things that the audience may not notice specifically the first time watching. These things are pleasurable to look at and would have the audience coming back again to notice them.
Isaac T Proposal
Our group has come together, discussed and clarified our final proposal idea using all of our different inputs. Our source of ideas was from the actual song, 'Don't Let Go - Mazeyboi': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ0DatSyzzg. As this song is very motivational and an inspirational song. The general concept of this song is aspiring to dreams and not letting go of your goals. We have organised for three models to mime the chorus vocals in performance, this will bring appeal to the video as in our research we discovered there were many people who said that they would prefer to watch a video when it has attractive women involved, also this would be a reference and bring in the intertextual shots from the original song where the chorus is sampled from, ‘En Vogue – Don’t Let Go’. 190505627370This would make the performance more in synchronization with the song and it would also make the video more visibly enjoyable with more than one person to watch.When hearing the song I imagined much motivational activity, such as sport playing. This is a strong image as when people run it is like they have liberty, which is emphasised within the lyrics, like at 0:43 Mazeyboi says; 'if you’re on your mark, get set, go!'. However Nathan suggested that a more strong impact would be the touching of gloves on the 'if your on your mark' and then the bell ringing on the 'get set, go' to begin the fight, we as a group discussed this and agreed this was a better suggestion. Our group discussed these two sports and realised that the better of the two sports would be boxing; this would require much more work and creative thinking however we believe it will lead to a better result. We have contacted boxing trainers and some are willing to let us use their boxing rings and training rooms for recording. This would be the other shot of a boxer training up for a fight, or perhaps even in the middle of a fight. Getting ready for the fight, or waking up in the morning getting ready to train would be perfect to fit from 0:00 - 0:21 seconds before the beat drops.
