Notas do Editor

  1. In considering the workplace needs of the Millennial generation employers should keep in min the group of people that will be taking over the work place. It is stated that by the year 2025, Millennials will replace the retiring members of the Baby Boomer generation and become the majority leader in the workplace (Putre, 2013, p. 38). At the time of the switch, employers will need to consider increasing collaboration within the workplace, improving face-to-face communication and offering more technology to keep members of this generation. This generation is not interested in climbing their way up the ladder if they are not comfortable in their job. They will hold several jobs within their lifetime. 3. Baby Boomers are the generation of people born between 1946 and 1965; they range from age 40 to their late 60’s (Carter & Simmons, 2007). Unlike Millennials, Baby Boomers are described as “idealistic, competitive, questioning authority, and desire to put their own stamp on things” (Niles, 2011, p. 48). The children of the Baby Boomers are members of the Millennial generation. 4. According to recent surveys, millennials will soon out number the Baby Boomers by several millions. Replacing them in the workplace and changing the face of business in addition to how it is conducted.
  5. Generation X is comprised of people in the approximate age range of 30’s to late 40’s. Niles, describes them as “eclectic, resourceful, self-reliant…and highly adaptive to both change and technology (Niles, 2011, p. 48).” Compared to their younger generation, the Millennials, Generation X members are considered to be serious revenue generators.

  9. Millennials use technology in many forms. The internet is a major place to research and retrieve news and information. Members of this generation prefer using computers, laptops, tablets and I pads over reading traditional books. Each device contains its own electronic reader such as Kindle and Google Books. In the classroom teachers use SMART Boards to deliver fun and interactive lessons to students to keep them engaged and excited about learning. We 2.0 tools are also use to assist with learning and engagement in the classroom.
  10. Technology can be used informally for learning using various resources. Many Millennials use Cell Phones and Smart Phones to access apps and games on the go. This includes apps for education and leisure. Social Networking is used for employment and relationship purposes. Many use BLOGS as an outlet to promote business or enhance their learning.

  12. In conclusion, the Millennial generation is composed of tech savvy individuals who are interested in helping the world as a whole. They like information quickly and small bursts. They prefer that it be interactive and exciting. They are willing to work with others and they do very well in groups. Millennials are quickly advancing in the workplace, edging out the Baby Boomers and closing in on Generation X. They are creating a mark and leaving an impression on society. Pushing it in a forward direction and moving with the pace of technology.
