summarize information by
listing events or actions in
the order that they take
place. use your Sequence
Chart as you reread "A Real
Princess" to figure out the
sequence of events.
The prince needs to marry a princess by
his thirtieth birthday, or the court will
dismiss him.
Princess Araya, wearing torn and muddy
clothes, arrives at the castle. The prince
doubts that Araya is a princess. The
queen asks the prince whether he will
marry Araya if the queen can prove that
Araya is a princess. The prince agrees.
Araya is sent to a bed of seven feather
mattresses. The queen orders that a
pebble be placed on top of the seventh
mattress to test Araya's royal blood.
Instead of sleeping, Araya gives the
mattresses away to poor people. The
prince sees her true worth and agrees to

meets a Golden Mare that can speak.
The mare takes Alexi to the Tsar. The Tsar is
impressed with the mare and hires Alexi as
a huntsman.
At midnight, maize was scattered over the
field, and Alexi took the saddle off the
Golden Mare. Then Alexi hid in a nearby

Firebird came flying.

and guide the horse are called the bridle.
