2. Why Moodle?What is Moodle? Modular Object- Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment Moodle allows teachers and students to use online assignments, discussion forums, quizzes, surveys, wikis, blogs, workshops, and file repositories together in a shared learning environment. There are hundreds of ways to set up a “class website”, but this gives CCS a consistent and secure setting-- with lots of features under one roof.
3. Today’s Goals Have everyone logged into Moodle and join the BLAST Summer Academy Moodle Course Log into an existing course you will use with students in 2011-2012, or Request a Course. Begin to organize one of your 2011-2012 student courses by setting up your topic blocks to your SOLs and Units. Bring files for your 2011-2012 courses for Day 2 and 3.

Logging in to Moodle http://Moodle.ccs.k12.va.us Login with your Novell login/password Your Courses: Search Courses for “blast” Choose BLAST Summer Academy (3rd choice on the list) The BLAST Summer Academy Course Enrollment code is “blast” If you don’t already have a Moodle course, go back to the Home screen and “Request a Course”
5. What’s New in Moodle 2.0? New Themes/Fonts Teachers can set their own Themes for their Courses (under Administration->Settings) Resources/Activities and Topic Blocks are now drag-and-drop Can import files from GoogleDocs and Dropbox You can move blocks around, and can “dock” them on the side for easier navigation
6. The BLAST Summer Academy Course All of the “handouts” and training materials for this week’s sessions will be on this course, including the schedules for each day. All participants are in the BLAST Summer Academy course as a “student”. This will let you see some of Moodle from a students perspective. You won’t be able to edit activities in this course, but you will in your 2011-2012 student courses.
