Presented by Connie Remsberg and Danielle Birch Vertical- Pharmacy Faculty at Washington State University have implemented ExamSoft® rubrics within their lab-based courses for activities such as patient counseling, SOAP note writing, and grading of compounding lab products, simulation exercises, and informal patient case presentations. This has helped to increase collaboration by allowing multiple faculty members to take part in the grading process. Presenters will share Washington State University’s experience with rubrics including: Multiple rubrics for one assessment Multiple graders for one assessment Utilizing the detailed grader report Rubrics for essays Rubrics for simulations Rubrics for compounding lab products and recordsPresenters will end with a discussion on the challenges and successes with rubrics followed by a Q & A with participants. At the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1) Develop and use rubrics for essay grading 2) Assign multiple rubrics to one assessment 3) Assign multiple graders to specific students 4) Utilize checklist in rubric format to evaluate skills based activities 5) Identify challenges and benefits of adopting computerized rubric technology to assess skills-based assessments

Presented by Veronica Michaelsen and Stephanie Sarandos Vertical- Medical Computer-based testing (CBT) offers a variety of advantages over paper-based testing including improved security and ease of longitudinal tracking of student performance over all phases of the curriculum. However, CBT, like any other innovation, should be implemented thoughtfully. Any successful implementation strategy must account for student acceptance and provide sufficient practice that the extraneous cognitive load is minimized. While extraneous cognitive load should decrease with use, it has also been shown that student opinion toward CBT improves with exposure. Following use of CBT, students perceive the system to be easier to use and they express more confidence in the technology. Still, there is an increased level of anxiety whenever a new technology is introduced. Students’ first experience to CBT should be deliberately designed to address common concerns. Practice quizzes can improve student acceptance of and option toward computer based testing but even these should be developed thoughtfully. In this session, we will briefly describe our approach to the issue of student acceptance and how we utilized student concerns from a pilot to inform our full-scale implementation. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their strategies and plans with the goal of developing a consensus around the subject of student orientation to maximize acceptance of CBT. At the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1) Participants will become aware of the types of cognitive load that can impact student performance during CBT. 2) Participants will become familiar with the literature on student acceptance of educational technologies. 3) Participants will have the opportunity to share concerns about and strategies for student acceptance of CBT. 4) Participants will take part in building a consensus around best practices for student orientation to CBT.

Assessment 1: Develop and maintain professional competenceSubmission details Candidate’s Name Phone No. Assessor’s Name Phone No. Assessment Site Assessment Date/s Time/s In this assessment you will develop a “Professional Development Plan” to help you maintain and develop the skills and knowledge you require to be successful in your current or future role(s). Step 1: In this step you will complete the following tasks. They will help you gather information about your personal and professional skills and attributes. · Personal and Key Skills - Appendix 1 · Job analysis - Appendix 2 (Obtain a copy of your job description from your employer or locate a job description for a role you are interested in working in the future) · Learning Style Assessment - Appendix 3 · Indicators of stress - Appendix 4 Step 2 In this step you will gather information about your time management skills as well as examining your ability to establish and maintain work goals and achieve business outcomes. For one working week (5 days) you need to maintain a, · Daily Activity Log - Appendix 5 Here, you will record the activities that make up your day and whether you have completed some, or all, of the goals you set out to achieve. Step 3: In this step you will summarize your findings and give them a score. · Competency Summary Feedback Sheet - Appendix 6 You then need to obtain feedback about your self-evaluation from 3 clients or colleagues (eg Manager or Trainer). Step4: From the information you have gathered in Step 1 and Step 2 consider the following: · What new skills do you need to acquire and/or maintain to give you a competitive edge in your role? · What personal attributes do you need to develop and/or maintain to continue being effective in your work-life. · Do you manage your daily activities and time effectively? · Are your stress levels affecting your mental and physical health? · How will your learning style impact on how you improve/maintain your skills? You now need to complete the SWOT analysis worksheet - Appendix 7 Step 5: Considering all the above information you now need to complete your · Professional Development / Action Plan - Appendix 8 Step 6: In a journal format; · Explain the findings for each area of reflection eg Personal SWOT analysis and the reasons why you have chosen to include these in your Personal Development Plan and how they relate to your professional competency. · Discuss your stress level and how these may be impacting on you work and overall productivity. · Discuss your daily activity and how efficient you are at managing your time. · Discuss your Learning Style and how this has influenced you in the way(s) you plan to learn or maintain your skills and knowledge. You are required to submit the following to your trainer for assessment. 1. Completed Templates - 1 to 8 2. Formative Evaluation Formative evaluation gives real results as the extent of the validity of the project submitted. Where it is in the development stage as it gives specific guidance on the kinks at each stage of the design stages. This gives us a good opportunity for the development and improvement before starting the execution, which helps to reach the desired goal. "Formative evaluation is conducted during the process of designing and development the materials while there's still time to make changes. Summative evaluation measures the effectiveness of instruction after it has been finalized.” (Lecture Note). During the first phase of the project design (analysis phase) and found several recipes characteristics of participants During the first phase of the project design (analysis phase) and found several recipes they are involved, including: 1- All of the targeted are teachers of elementary schools. 2- Thy did not use iMovie before. . 3- They have the basics of computer use . 4- Thy have a desire to use technology in education . 5- All of them have experience of not less than five years in education . 6- all-male sex This helps us a lot in choosing the right tools to deliver the project in proportion to their characteristics. Also it helps in building the content according to the quality of our targets and what should we say and what we must not say. The materials and instruments used in the evaluation Due to the value of our project is submitted, the first steps to success is the involvement of experts and some of the target in the evaluation process. This helps a lot in the detection of defects that may be unclear to us. Can not build any project according to a personal opinion because it certainly would lose a lot of elements that make it an integrated and comprehensive. "A fourth class of strategies is termed participant-oriented models. As the term suggests, they emphasize the central importance of the evaluation participants, especially clients and users of the program or technology. Client-centered and stakeholder approaches are examples of participant-oriented models, as are consumer-oriented evaluation systems. “(William M.K 2006). The preparation of questions of the most important matters to reveal the strengths and weaknesses of the project, and I have been chosen two people from the experts. The first one in curriculum design and the other in training program design ,and questions were as follows: 1. Are the objectives clear and been achieved? 2. Is the content sequential and interdependent makes the learning process more effective? 3. What is your assessment of the stimuli provided in the project? 4-Any other observations you see that we need them to raise the level of the project . There will come a comment on the results of the questionnaire later. After this phase of the evaluation moved into a one to one, where it reflects the value that is gained from the educational situation and skills gained from the impact o ...
