1. Creating a Website Using Dreamweaver – Part One: Splash Page
1. In your ‘My Documents’ folder
create a new folder by clicking on
‘File’, ‘New’ and ‘Folder’. Name the
folder ‘Dreamweaver’. Next open
Dreamweaver from the
Start/Programs/Macromedia menu
and click on the ‘HTML’ option
underneath the ‘Create New’
heading.
2. In the ‘Title’ box enter the
website title ‘My Website:
Welcome’ Next enter the text
‘Welcome to my Website!’ in the
main window below the ‘Title’
box. Finally go to the ‘File’ menu
and select ‘Save as’ go to your
‘Dreamweaver’ folder and save
the page as ‘splash’.
3. Click on the globe icon (next to the ‘Title’
box) and select ‘Preview in IExplore 6.0’
Your webpage should look like the one
below.
4. Go back to Dreamweaver and highlight the
‘Welcome to my Website’ text. You can then use the
tools at the bottom of the screen in the properties
window to bring the text into the centre of the screen.
(These tools are very similar to Word).

2. 5. Press return after the first line of
text and type ‘This is my Website and
it is all about: My Favourite Bands.
Skate Boarding and Internet Games.’
(You can enter your own hobbies
here).
6. In order to split the text onto
separate lines, put your cursor at the
end of the first sentence (click your
mouse) and press the keys ‘Shift’ and
‘Enter’ together. Do this with the other
lines.
7. Next you can insert an image
between the heading and body text
by clicking on the ‘Insert’ menu and
‘Image’. Then browse for a suitable
image in your ‘My Documents’ folder
and click ‘OK’.
8. Next you are going to change the
background colour by clicking on the
‘Modify’ menu and selecting ‘Page
Properties’. From here you can click
on the little grey box next to the
‘background color’ title to bring up a
choice of colours. Select your colour
and press ‘OK’
9. If you highlight your heading you can
use the 'Properties' window to change
the font to Arial and the size to 16. You
can also change the font colour in the
same way you did with the background.
By clicking on the black square in the
'Properties' window and selecting the
colour you want from the palette. Next
change the main text font to Arial.
