Introduction Student Page Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Credits [ Teacher Page ] You work for a large chain of hotels in the United States and you and a few co-workers are traveling to a Spanish speaking country to learn about the history, the culture, the land and the people as a research project for your company that is looking to open a new hotel in a Spanish speaking country.
The Task Student Page Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Credits [ Teacher Page ]   When you return to your company from your travel to the Spanish speaking country your team was assigned, you and your team are to present what you have learned to a board of executives at your work who are interested in opening a new hotel in another country. What they are looking for is a place to build and open a hotel where people from the U.S. would be interested in traveling and staying there. They are looking for a place that has a fascinating culture and has much to see and do. You and your team’s job are to present what you have learned through using a power point presentation and persuade the board as much as possible to choose your country. If they do choose your country you will be awarded a large bonus at work. Each team will be assigned to a country from these following countries: Spain, Argentina, Costa Rica and Mexico. Each team member will then be assigned to research one area of interest such as: history, food, traditional celebrations or events, major attractions, and general customs. Each team member will need to create three power point slides dealing with their subject. In total your group should have 17 slides, three for each group member and one with the general facts and one for the introduction. Also, as a team you will decide which city in that country would be the safest and most sensible to have the hotel at. Title

Adventures Abroad!(Ms. Riss) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page A WebQuest for 11 th and 12 th grade (Spanish) Designed by Morgan Riss [email_address] Based on a template from The WebQuest Page Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
Introduction (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This lesson was designed to help students learn about the different cultures of Spanish-speaking countries and to realize that there are vast differences across the spectrum from country to country. This lesson is has the students pretending to be an employee of a large chain of hotels that is interested in opening up a new hotel in a Spanish-speaking country. The student is then supposed to travel to a country on business and research the country in order that they can come back and present the information to a “board of executives” to persuade them to open a hotel in the country they visited. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
Learners (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This lesson is geared towards upper division Spanish students most likely of the 11 th and 12 th grade level. This lesson involves research, putting together a power point, presenting the power point in Spanish, and also listening to other people speak in Spanish. This lesson involves a lot of hard work that is why it is geared towards the upper level Spanish students. Prior to this lesson the learners will need to know how to construct sentences in Spanish, be able to understand Spanish and be able to speak Spanish at a level where it can be understood by others. If you choose to do this lesson for lower division Spanish students it may need to be modified to fit their educational level. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
Curriculum Standards (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page Students will learn about the culture of four different Spanish-speaking countries. Their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills will also improve from doing this lesson. Spanish Standards Addressed: 1.1 LISTENING -Students listen to and derive meaning from a variety of foreign language sources. 1.2 SPEAKING-Students speak in the foreign language for a variety of purposes and for diverse audiences. 1.3 READING-Students read and derive meaning from a variety of materials written in a foreign language. 1.4 WRITING -Students write in a foreign language for a variety of purposes and for diverse audiences. STANDARD 2: Students acquire and use knowledge of cultures while developing foreign language skills. Not only will students improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, they will also improve their teamwork, creativity, presentation and production skills. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion

Resources (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page In order to carry out this lesson you will need: -Spanish books for the students to use as references -Spanish dictionaries for the students to use as references -A computer for each student with internet access and Microsoft power point presentation software. One teacher is enough to implement this lesson. The student will basically be on the computers for a majority of the time therefore you will just be there to monitor and help with any questions they may have. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
Evaluation (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page As a teacher it will be evident if this lesson was successful if: -The student demonstrates a new understanding of their country and their topic area. -If other students demonstrate understanding of other team members assigned topics and also other groups countries. -If the student shows the ability to write their slides in Spanish and also present their presentation in Spanish. -If the students show the ability to read other team members and groups slides and also understand the presentation of other team members and groups. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
Teacher Script (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page The WebQuest model is best suited for learners who can navigate the Web on their own and can read the kinds of material commonly found on the Web. We can stretch the format to reach primary-aged learners, developmental English Language Learners and special populations by creating a facilitated WebQuest, one that requires an adult or older peer to drive things. Use this page to create a script for that facilitator. The facilitator would print this page out and use it to guide their progress through the WebQuest. Script: First you will need to present the introductory page to students and describe to them what it is they will be doing. Then you will go on to explain the task to them. I feel it is important to go over this with them as a class as they may have questions. Most questions you may be asked will be regarding the actual web quest instructions. They may be confused on who does what task, etc… Just make sure that the students know that they will be in a group of five people, each person in the group will have a different task, and that they will each need to make slides and eventually present it to the rest of the class. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
Conclusion (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This lesson is an excellent way to have students learn about the vast cultural differences from one Spanish speaking country to the next. Students will really develop an understanding of the different Spanish cultures there are out there. This is also a great way to have them develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Spanish. Not only that , but it will familiarize them with web quest if they are not already so, enable them to demonstrate their creativity skills, understanding and comprehension skills, teamwork skills and presentation skills. All in all this is great lesson for the more advanced level Spanish students. It could also be a great lesson for the less advanced students as well, however the lesson may need some altering in order to fit their educational level. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion

  • 3. Title
