Marketing your MLM online – Tips from an online marketer
by thepaulturner | on May 24, 2013
I take part in an online marketing Mastermind group on a Thursday night where we discuss our successes for the week with the other members and we get to learn from each other – so today I am sharing some tips we discussed – particularly with a focus on marketing an MLM business online.
Target your material to your audience
Have you ever tried selling ice to an Eskimo? Apparently good sales people can do it, but for the rest of us we would be better trying to sell warm clothing, gas heaters, fishing lines and anything else useful to someone living in that environment.
Why then do we see people going into any Facebook group that isn’t LIKELY to have people wanting to start a business. Why not target stay at home moms – who are LIKELY to want to stay at home to take care of the children rather than go out to work? Why not target Facebook groups for people who already sell a related product to yours that may want to add an additional income stream.
Be helpful not “sellful”
OK, I made up a word! But the point is you wouldn’t walk up to someone in the street and ask them to join your business straight away. If you have ever tried that results are terrible. First of all you need to at least have a bit of small talk or do something to prove your worth.
Once you have given something of value most people will want to know what else you can offer and you can show them how your product or service can HELP them.
Get your content out there
As an SEO geek I always favored getting my content high up in Google and I still believe its the best way of getting targeted people - and if somebody searches for your product or service and they find you then its very likely they are going to read / watch / listen to your content and a percentage will buy from you.
With Google making so many changes recently with its Panda and Penguin updates (Penguin 4 just hit a couple of days ago as I write this) it is very unpredictable and you shouldn’t rely on it. Here are some other ways of distributing your content -
Tribe Pro – a fantastic way to get social shares from real people (Google also likes to see social activity on your content
Slideshare -this site has lots of visitors and you can sometimes get ranked on Google by using it. Turn your content into a pdf with a free tool like Primo PDF (just search in Google for it) and it is likely you will get views – I do !
Docstoc - another document sharing site
YouTube – the second biggest search engine on the planet – so why not talk about your content and post it online – the link takes you to the example below -
Relevant Facebook groups – just find some that match

Build an online list and talk to them
Many MLM companies tell you to build a list of people you know and then extend that by thinking outside
of the box – but it still relies on people you have some connection with. There is nothing wrong with this
but when you move to online marketing you have a much bigger catchment area.
The downside is you have no personal connection with these people – you may have something in
common but no connection. So if you can offer something of value to them in exchange for their email
address you can send them messages and follow up – this is an art in itself but an easy one to master with a
little practice.
One of the best ways of doing this is with a service called an autresponder – Aweber, Get Response
and Talk Fusion (includes video) all have great autoresponders.
Consistency is key when marketing your MLM business
online
From personal experience and from speaking to people in many MLMs (I help people MLMers market
online) I can tell you that consistency is key. Having a burst of activity is great and to be commended but
not if you are going to stop and then do nothing for a few weeks.
3. In the words of one of my mentors – blog daily, tell
others, collect the money! Lets break that down -
• blog daily – create content
• tell others – syndicate it using the sites and places I mention above (and of course any others you find)
• collect the money – the money will come if you follow the system!
Hope you enjoyed the article. Feel free to come and say hello and ask questions! I have more resources
for training and ways to blog.
I would love to interview you too and find out about your
MLM business – I give you a guest post on my site if you
