2. The Western Wall The Western Wall ( Ha-Kotel Ha Ma’ariv) is the holiest site in Jerusalem. The Western Wall is the only wall left from the holy temple. King Herod built the Western Wall in 20 BC. Some people there today are praying, some are crying, and some are celebrating or having their Bat or Bar Mitzvah. Other people are sticking notes or wishes in the crack in the stones because the Jews believe that god will receive them.

3. Yad VaShem Yad VaShem is a holocaust memorial museum. It is one of the most important holocaust museum in the world. It is remembering the six million Jews who were killed in the holocaust. Outside of the room of the six million Jews who died there is a special place for all the children who suffered and were killed in the holocaust. Today they keep looking for people that were killed in the holocaust to remember them in the museum.

4. Mount of Olives In the Mount of Olives you will find six churches and one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in the world. If you start on the right path you will see the Tombs of the Prophets, Haggai, Malachi, and Zechariah. Many Jews believe that from the mount of olives it is the shortest route to heaven since G-d’s presence is hovering over Jerusalem.

5. Rockefeller Archaeological Museum The Rockefeller Archaeological Museum is located near Herod’s Gate. Most of the collection was found in Ashkelon, Acre, and Galilee by American and English archaeologists. This museum contains the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Rockefeller Archeological Museum is now a branch in the Israel’s Museums.

6. Dome of the Rock The most famous Islamic site in Jerusalem is the Dome of the Rock. It is very beautiful and it can be seen from all over Jerusalem. The dome of rock is not a mosque. It is a Muslim shrine. It is built over sacred stone. This stone is believed to be the place from which the Prophet Muhammad ascended into heaven during his Night Journey to heaven.

7. Mea She'arim In 1873, orthodox Jews found a settlement a short distance from the old city. It was the second neighborhood built outside of the city walls. The name Mea She’arim means one hundred gates. Today Mea She’arim is a unique neighborhood. The people there dress in a manner common to the Jewish ghettos of the 18 th and 19 th century. They are so religious they won’t let tourists take pictures.

8. Mount Herzl Mount Herzl is located at the end of the Bet Ha-Kerem section of Jerusalem. It is the memorial for Theodore Herzl, who predicted and worked for the founding of Israel until his death in 1904. Herzl's wife and parents are buried there as well. There is another section which important leaders are buried there as well. Down the entrance of the Herzl cemetery there is a military cemetery.

9. The Garden Tomb The Garden Tomb is located in east Jerusalem. It’s not for sure, but they say Jesus is buried there. In 1883, General Gordon visited the tomb on the way to Egypt, and that the Church of the holy Sepulcher, had a vision that this site was the real tomb of Jesus. The tomb was finally excavated in 1891.

10. Valley of Kidron The Valley of Kidron is between the Mount of Olives and the old city walls. Just under the wall there are two tombs, Absalom’s tomb and the Tomb of Zechariah. At one time, religious Jews would throw stones at Absalom’s tomb because he turned against his father, King David.

11. Knesset The Knesset is the building were the Israeli parliament meet. There are 120 seats in the Knesset. the name, Knesset and the number of seats n the room were both taken from the great assembly of the second temple period, Haknesset Hagedolah. There’s a forty minute public tour on Sundays and Thursdays.
