AP World History: Lesson 13 PBA
November 19, 2010
The Mongols were once powerless and weak,
They were waiting for a leader that was brave,
not meek.
In 1170 Temujin was born,
But the death of his father, the leader, caused
him to mourn.
He was now chief, but no one wanted to follow,
For the nomadic enemies wanted to claim his
life and no one wanted to wallow.
He was taken prisoner by enemies in 1182,
However he escaped and joined a powerful
Mongol crew.
Temujin went to war to avenge his father’s
death firsthand,
After his success, he became supreme ruler or
khagan of the land.
CHORUS
The Mongols were a fierce force, never to have feared fear,
They conquered many lands and every man would adhere.
From Genghis Khan to Kublai Khan, the empire reached its peak,
The Mongol empire was the greatest in the world; feared for being
so unique.
The Mongolian army became world renown,
Awing the world with the superior skills they’ve
shown.
Warriors had amazing accuracy with a bow
and arrow,
They were considered able to defeat any
targeted foe.
Those courageous and talented would be put
in command,
Their mission was to restore discipline and
unity to the land.
The supreme Genghis Khan set out on a plan,
He would use his powerful army to conquer
every man.
China became the first target of the khan’s
campaign,
The defense was forced to surrender to the
nomadic reign.
CHORUS
The Mongols were a fierce force, never to have feared fear,
They conquered many lands and every man would adhere.
From Genghis Khan to Kublai Khan, the empire reached its peak,
The Mongol empire was the greatest in the world; feared for being
so unique.
The Mongols moved farther and farther west,
Attacking the Kara Khitai and Khwarazam
Empires, the Mongols displayed their best.
Although Genghis Khan was fierce, he was
tolerant and astute,
He took an interest in new cultures and
knowledge; he was not a brute.
Genghis Khan created Karakorum, the new
capital for knowledge and innovation,
He consulted with scholars, engineers, and
advisers on how to better his nation.
This powerful leader flourished trade and
brought Asia much peace,
Unfortunately in 1227, Genghis Khan had to
cease.
His third son, Ogedei, became grand khan,
He was diplomatic and manipulative and peace
was stepped on.
CHORUS
The Mongols were a fierce force, never to have feared fear,
They conquered many lands and every man would adhere.
From Genghis Khan to Kublai Khan, the empire reached its peak,
The Mongol empire was the greatest in the world; feared for being
so unique.
The Golden Horde, or the army, wanted to
conquer Russia next,
So under the rule of Batu, the Mongols
attacked and caused many effects.
The Russians called the Mongols tartars, or
people from hell,
But Russians stopped mocking, when their
empire completely fell.
The fights were fought in the midst of winter
and cold,
The Russians tried to fight back, but they
Mongols had a strong hold.
Numerous cities were in ruins and destroyed,
The Russians tried to protect the great city,
Kiev, but even this calamity they could not
avoid.
The Mongols occupied Russia for quite some
time,
But in 1380, the Russians united at the Battle
of Kulikova and defeated the Mongols at
CHORUS
The Mongols were a fierce force, never to have feared fear,
They conquered many lands and every man would adhere.
From Genghis Khan to Kublai Khan, the empire reached its peak,
The Mongol empire was the greatest in the world; feared for being
so unique.
Next came the invasion on Christians of
the west,
That hoped Genghis Khan was a savior
against the Muslins they did detest.
But instead of the Prester John that
would relieve their situation,
The Khan attacked Christendom with
his evil aspiration.
European countries would have
experienced great devastation,
But the conquest turned focus onto the
wealthier Muslim nations.
The assault on the Muslims left a
devastating effect,
For the conquering of civilians and
Baghdad left the empires no respect.
Muslims suffered greatly under the
Mongol’s brutal treatment,
However, Egyptian forces were able to
reverse the conquest’s movement.
CHORUS
The Mongols were a fierce force, never to have feared fear,
They conquered many lands and every man would adhere.
From Genghis Khan to Kublai Khan, the empire reached its peak,
The Mongol empire was the greatest in the world; feared for being
so unique.
The Mongol invasion into China continued
to advance,
Kubilai Khan, the leader, caused the
army’s strength to continuously
enhance.
Laws were passed to keep the Chinese
and Mongols independent,
For the khan wanted to ensure pure
Mongols remained constant.
A new social structure ensured the
Mongolian race the highest position,
So the Chinese citizens had no
contribution in controlling their nation.
The Mongols introduced many foreign
influences for culture and trade,
The cities and economy boomed due to
the decisions the Mongols made.
Finally, chaos reigned as the Mongol
conquerors lost power,
Then the peasants’ Ming Dynasty left the
Mongol empire to be devoured.
CHORUS
The Mongols were a fierce force, never to have feared fear,
They conquered many lands and every man would adhere.
From Genghis Khan to Kublai Khan, the empire reached its peak,
The Mongol empire was the greatest in the world; feared for being
so unique.
