There are four types of phrasal verbs: 1) Verb + particle (no object), which can be literal or idiomatic like "go out" 2) Verb + particle + object, which can be separable and literal or idiomatic like "put up" 3) Verb + particle + object, which are inseparable and can be literal or idiomatic like "come across" 4) Verb + particle + particle, which are nearly always idiomatic like "get along" and have a fixed object position.
