4. Keeping your child safe in the car
Holding your child on your lap or in your hands is dangerous
• This might seem safe enough. After all, you'd hold your child tight if anything
happened, right? But the truth is that even if you're belted in, your child
could be ripped from your arms by the force of a collision.
• If you manage to get the seat belt around both of you, your weight could
actually crush your child.
• So as much as your child may scream never let your child ride in a moving
car unless he's safely strapped into an age-appropriate, correctly installed
car seat or booster.

5. Help your child stay safe
• Car seats must fit the baby: Use your baby's height, weight and age to
choose the type of car seat to use.
• Can you install and use the car seat easily? Check the car seat manual
to be sure you can install and use the car seat as it is intended
• Does the car seat fit your vehicle? With so many vehicle seat styles, from
benches to buckets, not all car seats will fit in every vehicle. It is essential to
find a car seat that can be installed tightly, with the proper angle and less
than an inch of side-to-side or front-to-back wiggle
• Are used car seats safe? Steer clear of used car seats if you cannot get
an accurate history of the car seat's use. You must know a car seat's crash
history to determine safety.
6. Travelling with kids
Safety
• On the road, safety and maximum protection are paramount.
Ease of use
• The objective is to have simple material - to help keeping your child safe &
easy.
Comfort
• Comfort is important for a child’s wellbeing. Infant carriers have a newborn
insert, and as the child grows, the seat padding, the recline positions and
the seating space should be adapted to the child’s changing needs.
7. Three types of baby car seats to choose from
• Baby car seat / car seats for infants
• Convertible (or infant-toddler) car seats
• Belt-positioning booster seats
8. Baby (or infant-only) Car Seats
• These should always face the rear of the car and should be at the back
seat.
• They have a weight limit of between 10kgs - 16kgs.
• When your baby reaches the weight or height limits for his infant seat, move
him to a rear-facing convertible car seat.
• Should be placed only at the back seat of the car and should never be in the
front seat.
9. Convertible (or infant-toddler) car seats
• 2 car seats in 1. Can be used for infants & toddlers
• These function as both rear-facing seats for babies and toddlers and
forward-facing seats for older children.
• It's safest to leave your child rear-facing as long as possible or until the age
of 2.
• Should be placed only at the back seat of the car and should never be in the
front seat.
10. Belt-positioning booster seats
• These seats are for kids who are at least 4yrs and weigh at least 18kgs.
• They use the regular car lap and shoulder belts to secure the child.
• Backless boosters are fine when used with an automobile seat that provides
head support.
• Should be placed only at the back seat of the car and should never be in the
front seat.
