2. Who Was L.S Lowry?
Laurence Stephen Lowry, born 1st
November 1887-23rd February 1976 was
an English artist born is Stretford,
Lancashire. He is mostly famous for his
paintings of industrial districts of North
West England and of the mid-20th
century. He developed a distinctive style
of painting and his urban landscapes
with people also known as “matchstick
men”.

basic range of colours he mixed on his palette and
painted on the white background . “ If people call
me a Sunday painter I’m a Sunday painter who
paints every day of the week. During his time the
public said his paintings are childish.
After his death he was famous for his artwork,
which now is in the Lowry Museum, in Salford
Quays, Salford.

It is named after the 20th Century painter .L.S. Lowry,
known for his paintings of the Industrial scenes in North
West England. It was officially opened in 12th October
2000 by the Majesty Queen Elizabeth II!
