What is a Grid-tied system?
Grid-tied or On-grid systems are connected to the
electrical grid, and allow residents of a building to

grid. Grid-tied systems do not need to produce
100% of the electricity demand for the user.

What is an off-grid system?
Off-grid obviously means that your solar system is
not connected to the utility grid, because you live
in a remote area and don’t have access to the
grid or you want to become energy self sufficient.
It requires that the solar panels are able to
produce enough electricity to cover 100% of the
energy needs.
For advanced systems with higher capacity, the
built-in solar charger in the inverter is not enough
and the system requires external solar chargers.

What is a Hybrid system?
Grid-tied systems can be upgraded to include a
battery backup to create a hybrid system.
The backup battery will be charged by both the
grid and the solar panels. In the event of an
outage, the backup battery will need to be
switched on either manually or with an
automatic system to provide backup power to
the building.
