2. Elements of a Set A set is a collection of objects called elements which are clearly defined. It can be defined by : List the elements with {2, 4, 6, 8} State the properties of the elements with {even nos.} Draw a Venn diagram

3. Null and Equal sets A null set is an empty set with no elements or one general element. It is denoted by . A pair of equal sets are sets with similar elements.

4. Subsets and Proper subsets When all the elements of A are all the elements of B, A is the subset of B and A B. When B contains more elements of A and all the elements of A, A is the proper subset of B and A B. as a subset of every set.

5. Complement of a set The complement of a set are the elements in a universal set, E, that are not members of the set. The complement of A is written as A’. When E = {integers from 1 to 10} and A = {integers from 1 to 5}, A’ = {integers from 6 to 10}.

6. Intersection of a set The intersection of two sets is the set of elements common to both sets. A B is expressed as the intersection of A and B. When A = {1, 3} and B = {3, 4}, A B = {3}.

7. Union of a set The union of A and B is the set of all the elements in A and all the elements in B. A B is expressed as the union of A and B. When A = {1, 2, 3} and B = {3, 4}, A B = {1, 2, 3, 4}.
