Ultramarathons are footraces longer than standard marathons, ranging from 50km to over 2000km. They can be point-to-point races, out-and-backs, or loops. Ultra runners include those aiming to cover fixed distances or maximize distance in set times, as well as journey runners traversing continents on foot. Notable ultrarunners have completed hundreds of marathons and ultras. The Western New York Ultra Series aims to promote local ultras through a points system for finishing various races.
