Welcome to the Fitness Money Podcast brought to you by Fitness Money.com. In this podcast, Logan
Christopher and Tyler Bramlett teach you the step by step ways to make more money in your Fitness
Business. Let’s take it on a word for this episode of the Fitness Money Podcast

Tyler: Hey everybody, it’s Tyler and Logan here. We’re here today with Episode #1 of the Fitness Money
Podcast. Logan, how’s it going?

Logan: It’s going good. I’m ready to kick start this thing.

Tyler: Yes. It’s going to be fun. So we wanted to kind of share with you guys today a little bit about why
we started this podcast and what you guys can expect to see over the next few months and hopefully
over the next few years.

Logan: Yeah. It should be a lot of fun. Just by doing this, I think we’re going to learn a lot from each
other. We’re, of course, going to be spreading it out. Everyone is going to be able to listen in for free,
the big old charge of zero dollars for this podcast. We’ll be giving high quality information. It should be a
lot of fun.

Tyler: Yes, absolutely. We’re expecting to become millionaires off that zero fee right there. The reason
why we started the Fitness Money Podcast and we’ll just shorten it up to Fit Money Podcast is because
we’re frustrated with seeing a lot of our friends who are in the fitness fields and the personal training
fields and they’re just struggling to get by. They’re living paycheck to paycheck. There’s a better way.
There are a lot of easier ways to make money online and Logan and I have both proved it, each making
multiple six figures in the fitness industries. We want to teach you guys how to do that, too, how to
build your business,

Tyler: And not just online too. You’ve done it quite a bit more than I have but in the offline world just by
taking similar tactics, in many cases the same tactics, leveraging online stuff for the brick and mortar
personal training hands on business, you can become very successful by doing that.

Logan: Yeah, absolutely. If all you did was just get your clients on autopilot, you raised your fees, and
decreased the amount of time you spent actually training them, instantly you make more money. There
are a million tricks we’re going to share with you guys about making more money with your private
clients, making more money with boot camps, and making more money online. It’s going to be a fun
podcast to be a part of.

Tyler: Yes I guess we should speak a little bit on—we’re going to go on our back stories here—why we
are qualified to do this. Like you said, we both run over a six-figure business at this point. It wasn’t
always that way. We certainly didn’t start out this good. It took some time, some learning, and a lot of
money spending that on education in order to get to this point.

Logan: So where do you want to start?

Tyler: All right. Let’s take it away. Let’s just kind a lead in Logan, why don’t you share your story? I’ll just
kind of moderate and throw in some, “Remember that story” and “Tell them about this kind of things”
while we go. Why don’t you share to our listeners why you’re qualified to help people learn to make
more money in the fitness industry?

Logan: Okay. Well, currently I have too many websites to count that sell mostly books and DVDs. I
primarily focus on the online realm, teaching people through those courses as well as partnering with
other people. I’ve got different side projects going on all the time but through all these courses, I have
marketed and taught people all across the world. I’d say full on a third of my customers are from outside
of the US so not only am I not just focused on the Santa Cruz, California market but I’m not even trying
to stay within the U.S. itself.

But it didn’t start this way. In fact, first when I was going to get started I formed my personal training
business with a faulty belief that if you build it, they will come. That does not work at all. It literally took

Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
me something like six months to get my first client, I’m kind of ashamed to admit. It was though,
thankfully once I started the business and realized that no, they don’t just start showing up at your door
—I didn’t even have a place of business. I was doing in-home and part-training and that sort of thing, so
they didn’t even have a place to show up at the door—but by starting that and realizing that it wasn’t
working at all, that’s when I started learning how to actually go out there and start marking yourself.
Still, it was a long slow process.

From there, I got a few clients and at the same time, I was observing all these other people whom I was
buying products from, books and courses online. I was like, “If they’re doing it, why can’t I?” So I got
started and I’ve launched my first product online at a site called LostArtofHandBalancing.com with an
old public domain book on hand-balancing which is not your biggest market in the world, people that
want to learn how to do handstands, but there was something to get started. From there, it just kept
growing.

Tyler: For those of you guys who don’t know out there, a public domain product means Logan didn’t
even create the program. Public domain basically means it’s a book or some sort of informational
product you’re legally allowed to reprint and distribute and make money off of.

Logan: You can use any way you want. In the future, I think it would be a good idea to get an entire
podcast on that because I’m not sure I would have started my business. It definitely would have been
much later without the public domain and I’ve really grown in my business a lot off of that stuff. So it
wouldn’t be the same without it. It’s really the quick start and the easiest way to get started.

Tyler: Yes. It could be the easiest way to get started. If you don’t have a big idea already, you can just
take somebody else’s big idea from a hundred years ago and just start building your business around
that.

Logan: Yes. I mean like I said, I don’t want to get all on the public domain but those people spent all their
time writing great books which really have stood the test of time. Why not use their knowledge? You’re
helping them out and spreading their word. Help yourself out, too.

Tyler: Sure. So Logan, since I know you so well, why don’t you share with these guys what you were
doing? What job did you have when you first started your internet company?

Logan: I was working at a natural food store by the name of Staff of Life working as a stocker. I had
worked my way up from bagger. I didn’t want to be a cashier but I worked my way up to the point
where I was actually buying the different products within the store but I was making a grand total of $12
an hour. So even as a personal trainer, like my first client, I was charging $25 an hour. I was still stoked
on that because I was making a whole lot more plus it was cash on hand so it was nice right there. From
that job, because I didn’t have a family or a house to support, it didn’t take too long with the online
business to have money coming in from that to surpass that $12-an-hour job.

Tyler: Yeah. Nowadays, I’m sure you could probably just make money online in a few days if you wanted
to, right?

Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
Logan: Absolutely. If I needed to start over, I have all the knowledge on what to do. Even if I didn’t have
a list or anything, there will be ways to do it.

Tyler: Sure. So how long did it take you to make your first $5000-month online.

Logan: First $5000-month online was, I think, one year after I launched that first product. The first
product I was selling for, I think, $39, maybe $39.95, and that sold out. I’d sold over a thousand bucks
the first day and this was starting without anything. Mind you, I had zero marketing knowledge. The only
thing I was learning from was seeing what other people were doing and then trying to copy them. I tell
people I made every mistake you could possibly make except the fact I just kept going, I got started, I did
it, and I learned from there because actually doing it is the best teacher there possibly is.

Tyler: Absolutely. I’m glad you brought that up because you guys need to learn that one fact early and
now is the best time to learn it. I’ve known Logan for a long time and one of his greatest strengths is he
takes action and he gets shit done. It takes very imperfect action. You know how I mean Logan? That’s
what people need to understand.

Logan: Are you saying I’m not perfect?

Tyler: Right? People just need to do something to get closer to their goals.

Logan: I see it with my coaching clients. People that are trying to start their own business, a lot of them
are hung up on the same thing. They don’t think their product’s good enough. Whatever they put
together, by having that idea that it has to be perfect, they’re shooting themselves in the foot because
it’s never going to be perfect. If you’re waiting for that point, you’re never get to get it out there.

The great thing about online, especially if you’re doing digital products and everything, is you can always
update them so just get something out now. You can always make it better in the future. Chances are
you’ll just move on to the next thing, maybe come back to it some few years down the road but it’s how
it goes.

Tyler: Right on. Well, do you remember the time when you had your first $10,000-month?

Logan: Yes. Well, actually let me rewind a little bit. I quit my job just after I launched my second product.
So I had the hand-balancing book then I put together a higher dollar course on hand balancing once
again. If they buy one product, they’re probably interested more. So I put together a higher package
priced product then I was making more money than I was so I quit my job. From there, I was able to
focus more and release a couple more products.

My first $10,000-month was about a year and a half after I started my business, I believe. What really
happened there was I had started learning about the whole product launch model and I put together a
launch once again. It was actually a re-launch of that second product I had except it was even bigger at
this point so I was able to break that $10,000-month barrier, which was a lot of money to me at that
time. Now if I only made $10,000, I would not be happy. Bills will not be paid at that point.

Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
Tyler: Yes. You start to get used to the fact that you’re good at what you do in business and stuff and
then that $10,000 seems like less and less. With that being said, though, you guys at home, if you’re
earning $10,000 online, don’t even take that number in your head. What you’ve going to think about is
just making that first dollar because that’s the most important thing. That proves you’re taking action
and that’s what you really need to do.

So share with us more what mistakes you made, Logan. How did you really move you way up from
making your first dollar to that point of making your $10,000-month?

Logan: Well, one of the things that was really a big holding point, something that held me back in the
beginning was creating websites. I’d see what everyone else was doing. I said, “How did they do this?”
and I am something of a control freak. I’m still trying to get over that, trying to do everything by myself,
but in the beginning, that is what I wanted to do and I suffered for it.

So one of the things I wanted to do learn how to do was how to create a website. Eventually, I did do
that and I learned basic HTML. Now, everything’s run on blogs so it’s super simple to do. For me, I
thought that was great because I’m a very self-reliant person. I want to be able to go in there and
change something or to be able to put something up instantly. When we got the idea for this podcast,
we’re like okay, register the domain name, I can have a website up within an hour. I can have that set
up, ready to go. I like to be able to do that rather than waiting on a web person.

That’s probably because my first website was actually built by a web person and I spent $800, which to
me was a lot at that time for a single-page website. It was not a good deal and I was not happy with it. It
took forever to get up. So after that, that’s when I decided I want to be able to do it myself. Now that’s
not for everyone. I know you don’t work with your websites. You have a person that does that for you.

Tyler: Yes. I don’t spend any time on that just because it’s not a strength of mine but it’s great you
mentioned that nowadays, everything’s run of off blog formats and even a technological retard like
myself—sorry, that’s probably not the best word to say on the podcast—I can really get a lot of stuff
done through WordPress and stuff like that. A great idea, Logan, in the future we should do an episode
where we just literally walk somebody through setting up their blog in 30 minutes or less. We just have
you go step by step. We’ll put that on a shelf for later. Look out for that in the future, guys.

Logan: Yes, I think that’s a good idea. Like you said, for me that was a big thing so I would be able to
move fast and be able to put up web pages and update everything. Actually talking about the blog, I
created HTML websites at the beginning. Blogs were definitely there in the day but they weren’t nearly
as popular as they were now so it took a long time for me to get a blog and then to be updating and
putting regular articles on there.

In the beginning, I really had zero marketing knowledge. I had spent some money on pay-per-click in
order to get traffic. I didn’t even know anything about SEO at all. Had I known that stuff at the
beginning, I could have grown my business so much faster but because I was missing all those pieces, it
was a slow start but, like I said, I got started, I kept moving, and it’s just been growing and compounding
year after year.

Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
Tyler: Yes. I imagine you’re the same way as I am. Your biggest lessons came from your biggest mistakes,
right?

Logan: Yes. One of the big mistakes that you’ve just reminded me of was after I quit my job, I wasn’t
really paying attention to my income and expenses all that much, my cash flow. This was something that
I definitely paid for. I was using credit cards really to grow my business, buying courses and buying
whatever I needed, software and different things to get started. There wasn’t a whole bunch in there
but by not paying attention to cash flow, which I think is a critical thing for everyone to do, you don’t
need to do your books.

Once again, have another person to do that if you’re not a bookkeeper and most people don’t want to
do that at all but know where your money is coming and going out so that you’re definitely keeping that
positive wherein you can be on top of that rather than just one day, you wake up and “Oh crap! I’m in a
mountain of debt” or something like that. You definitely want to avoid that because that just weighs on
your soul, it causes so much stress, and it really becomes hard to dig yourself out of a hole like that.

Tyler: Sure. That’s a great piece of advice for everybody when they’re getting started. Awesome. So you
started out, you learned some lessons, and you started building your online business. Where has it gone
since that $10,000-month? Give us an idea of what your days looked like right now. Let your listener
know what does Logan Christopher do now?

Logan: Well, what Logan Christopher does now is always changing. It’s really adapting. The biggest thing
that I’ve done correct in my business is not just hanging my flag on a single product. That works for
some people if you have something that has mass appeal, for instance, Mike Geary with The Truth
About Abs. He took what that one thing and ran with it until it was multi-millions of dollars. Now he has
some other stuff added on top of it but he really focused on that.

That’s one model if what you have works for you and if you can really focus on that. For me, hand
balancing is not an aptitude with a market. It couldn’t possibly work. I couldn’t create multimillions of
dollars off that alone. Instead of going deep on that one thing, I decided to go wide. I covered all the
different aspect. If people were into hand balancing, they’re probably into tumbling and gymnastics and
doing hard core. So even though I couldn’t create all those products myself, I found some in public
domain I could use. I partnered up with other people that have offerings with that. For instance,
parkour, I haven’t really done that but a lot of people are on my list are interested in that so I was able
to find someone who does that well. I’ve actually found a couple of different people and offer what they
offer and make money off of that.

So it’s grown in the sense that I’m offering a whole bunch more. I’ve got several different websites
where I do this. I’ve partnered up with a whole bunch of different people and that’s something that’s
actually growing quite big in the past month right now. We’re still working on all the details and seeing
how this whole partnership thing with some of the strongest people in the world in their different areas
is going to all come together.

Tyler: So it sounds like you’ve got some big plans for the future.

Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
Logan: Yes, always big plans for the future. It’s always growing. It’s never getting any easier. It is
continually evolving in what I’m doing. Right now what I’m working on, because I’ve grown so much and
done so much myself, really working on them all if I need to do everything for myself because you can
only rely on one person and that’s yourself, which is useful to have. It’s going to help you to get things
done to be self reliant like that but it can also get you trapped into where, if you’re doing everything
yourself, you can’t focus your time properly on the best use of your time.

Right now, I’m working on getting it set up so I have people and systems in place to do a lot more for me
so I’m able to step back and work more on doing stuff like marketing and content creation and creating
more products, that sort of thing.

Tyler: Yes, that’s fantastic. That’s something that every entrepreneur has to go through at some point.
They have to realize I don’t have all the time in the world and there’s no way I can get this all done by
myself and you’ve got to find people that can do what you don’t want to do. It’s something that we all
have to go through at some point as our business grows.

Logan: It’s also the beauty of online is when there’s a whole bunch of leverage already built into what
you can do. You’re basically just having a website with the product up there that you don’t need to
continually spend time on. That’s a system that’s already in place so being able to leverage that, In that
sense I do but now I need to focus more on not just building those systems there but systems with other
people involved because there is manual work involved in certain things I’m doing, especially partnered
with these other people and getting results for everyone involved.

Tyler: Yes, systems—that’s a great topic to touch on real quick while you’re talking about it. We are
talking a lot about the online world because that’s really your specialty but what you guys will find is
that as a personal trainer, as a boot camp runner, even if you’re just starting out in a park, building a
reliable system from the start is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Because you’re going to
find that somebody enters your funnel, they start on a path and as they walk down that path, they’re
going to be consistently be converted into a customer online or into a client personally or into at least a
really strong prospect that eventually will become a customer or client. That’s just something that is so
important that we’re going to end up talking about and sharing with you guys, all about how you can set
up these basic systems, how you can set up these foundations, so that you can basically make more
money in your fitness business. Logan, your specialty is online so why don’t you share with these people
kind of a snapshot of all the things you hope to teach them over the time or on this podcast?

Logan: Okay, there’s a whole lot that goes into running an online empire. I won’t quite put myself there
but I’m working towards building it. So setting up and building websites, once again these are things that
you can have other people do for you or you can learn to do yourself. You have in that the content that
has to go out there. Content these days, it’s not just written words but you have videos. You can do
podcasts, audios, all sorts of different things and there are systems you can leverage there, methods
that you can use that will allow you to take just like one piece of content like this podcast here and allow
it to be in different multiple places at once which is something that is becoming more essential today. So
that can be something we touch on.

Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
Coming up with products and ideas. Even if you’re an offline person and you’re a personal trainer, if you
come up with things that you can offer your clients, let’s say you just write a book even if it’s a book that
—although you can easily sell books on Amazon these days—if you can just have something printed,
that gives you credibility, something you can give your clients that will give them a foundation.

There are all sorts of different ways you can leverage the creation of products. Marketing is a huge
thing. There are tons and tons of ways that you can advertise online. You can get traffic through SEO,
pay-per-click, videos, social media, and all sorts of things in there.

Then how do you work with other people? Establishing affiliate relationships or joint ventures as well as
talking with your customers. Customer service is something we can talk about as well but also the social
media site. How do you grow that? It’s not my specialty but I’m working on that more and starting some
results come from that area as well.

So there’s really a whole bunch that goes into the online world. I would encourage people, even if you’re
only focused on training clients, even just creating a simple blog for yourself, just to get into the rhythm
of doing some writing or producing some content in that way, I think that’s a good thing you can just
add the value to your clients that way. “Check me out.” You have that online presence but even through
some simple stuff, even if you don’t want to create your own product, by producing good content out
there and having it spread naturally even without focusing on marketing, sell other people’s stuff
through affiliates and have that just be a side income stream, so that you can spend less time on
personal training if you want.

There’s so much to leverage there that if you just know some simple tactics really—and that’s stuff we’ll
be teaching on this podcast in the future—these simple tactics can allow you to get some huge results.
Just think about car payment or a house payment, whether you rent or have a mortgage. If you can
have just some side project you have going online that pays for that, how much will that help you?

Tyler: Even just a hundred bucks extra in your pocket each month, you could take your wife or your kids
or yourself out to a fine dinner and enjoy your life a little bit more. That’s what we’re here to teach you
guys. It’s just how you can leverage your ideas and your knowledge and you can become a more
successful personal trainer either with your clients, with your boot camps, or online as well. Any
thoughts, Logan, that we can add to this podcast before we take off for today?

Logan: Well, just to cover the big idea. What we’re covering here is marketing strategies. It’s ways you
can make more money by helping people because that’s something you need to understand. If you’re
the best personal trainer in the world, that doesn’t matter too much. There are people that are making
way more money than you that are way worst trainers. That’s an unfortunate thing. I wish it just came
down to skill, how you made money, but you have to understand if you’re in business for yourself or
even working for some other people, you still need to learn how to market yourself.

By applying these things, by learning marketing, you’re going to be able to get so much more out of
what you do. You’re going to be able to select the clients you work with. You’re going to be able to make

Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
your own hours much more. There are so many benefits like out of understanding marketing at least as
well as you understand training.

Tyler: Absolutely.

Logan: Unfortunately, people can just take these ideas and really put out crap personal training ideas
and health information. There are a lot of people out there that do understand marketing that aren’t
that good at that job. We want you to be good at that side and also bring this to the table so you’re able
to get much more and help more people because really what it comes down to is the more money that
you make with your business, the more you’re helping people.

Tyler: Right. If people vote with their dollars and so getting those dollars in your bank account tells you
you’re doing something right. I’m glad you mentioned that whole personal trainer paradigm these days
because I happen to work within some fitness facilities and I constantly see these trainers. They go and
spend $500 on this seminar and $1,000 on this certification. You remember being there. Every time you
go get a certification, you think that you’re going to go home and you’re going to command more money
or that clients are going to come knocking, and they’re not. They are not going to come knocking. So
learning how to—

Logan: If you get a certification, they don’t come either. You build it. The only thing is when you learn
how to market, put those systems in place, get those things running for you, then that’s what brings in
the money. Certifications are all great and I hope you have many of them but also understand from the
flipside, those people putting on those certifications are doing the marketing right to get you in there.
We should talk about that, just the whole certification thing at some point.

Tyler: Yeah, marketing behind the certifications. Because you guys can learn all the stuff you want and
that’s something we could touch on real quick, too. It doesn’t matter if you’re providing a product or
service. You do have to give something that works. If you’re the greatest marketer in the world and your
stuff doesn’t work to some degree then you’re going to get kicked by the wayside. We’re not saying that
you can be a total dope and still make a ton of m even though there are some people that are doing
pretty good at that.

What we want for you people out there that really care about personal training, that really care about
their fitness business, that really just want to just make a good living out of it and also help a ton of
people at it, we’re trying to help you guys find different avenues to make more income so that you guys
can be more comfortable in your daily lives and really help people out more as well.

Logan: Yeah. We’re going to do that in every different way we can, talking about the offline stuff, the
online stuff, setting up systems, working with people, really everything as we go along with this weekly
podcast.

Tyler: Yes. I’m really excited to share all the tips that I’ve gleaned over the years because it has been a
rough road and if there’s anything I really want to do, it’s the same thing with fat loss and building
strength and conditioning, I don’t want people to have to go through the same speed bumps that I did.

Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
You would have really see it on the online world and I’ve gone through them in the training world and
everything and it’s just terrible. When you’re working a part time job as a construction worker and then
you’re trying to start a boot camp at the same time and nobody’s making any money, it’s just bad.

Logan: That reminded me of something that people are going to get with this podcast is really an inside
look at our businesses that they’re not going to be able to see. It can be just observing from the outside.
By all means go to legendarystrength.com, sign up on there so you can see all the things I’m doing and
learn my training information and Tyler, go to GarageWarrior.com and see what he’s doing, make sure
you’re on there.

With this podcast, we’re going to be taking you inside like doing product launches, how we work with
affiliates, that sort of thing. I know you just had a recent launch. I just had a recent thing and that’d be
great to go over what we did in there, what worked, what didn’t, what can be improved upon next time,
and the big learning lesson. You’re going to be get an inside look that you really can’t get with most
people.

You have to understand most people that teach marketing, a lot of times you’re not really seeing what
they’re actually doing. Often times, all they teach is sort of surface level stuff but here on this free
podcast where we’re charging zero dollars once again, you’re actually going to go inside and just from
that you can model and learn from what we’re doing including our mistakes and doing them better
yourself.

Tyler: Yes. I’m really excited about talking about all that stuff. This is the type of podcast where if you
guys are regular listeners and you don’t make any money, you might as well just give up already. Go get
yourself a job working for a high school or college as an exercise teacher or something like that and just
collect your paycheck and smile. But if you’re sick of not making enough money and you really want to
make more money in the fitness business, this podcast is going to show you exactly how to do that in a
number of different ways so be sure to stay tuned. We’re going to show you some awesome stuff over
the next few months.

Logan: So we’ve done about a half hour commercial for the podcast at this point almost but really, we
are just both really excited about what we’re going to be doing over the coming weeks, months, and
years with this. It should be a lot of fun.

Tyler: Yes, absolutely. To wrap this episode up, we got kind of Logan’s back story. Next time, we’ll
probably be talking about my back story and more about the brick and mortar style businesses. Then
we’re going to jump two feet first into it and teach you guys exactly how to start building a strong
foundation, how to avoid the mistakes we’ve made, and how you guys can hopefully make an extra
hundred to a thousand dollars in your first 30 days of applying this information.

Logan: It’s really easy to do. If simple steps can lead to huge breakthroughs as far as marketing, just
doing a single thing right or putting your first product up there. It has become easier and easier and
easier to make money online these days. It’s always easy to make money offline if you know how to do
it. You don’t need to spend any money to do it. Of course, there are ways where you can spend money

Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
to do it but there are so many free ways as well. All you’ve got to do is learn how to do them, actually
apply yourself to it, and the results will come.

Tyler: Absolutely. So you guys, stay tuned in the near future. We’re going to be doing a weekly podcast,
sharing with you guys how you can make more money as a fitness professional. Thanks so much for
listening.

Fitness Money Episode 1 - Logan's Back Story

  • 1. Fitness Money Podcast Episode 1 Logan’s Back Story Get this podcast on iTunes at: http://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/fitness-money-podcast-podcasts/id584443274 Welcome to the Fitness Money Podcast brought to you by Fitness Money.com. In this podcast, Logan Christopher and Tyler Bramlett teach you the step by step ways to make more money in your Fitness Business. Let’s take it on a word for this episode of the Fitness Money Podcast Tyler: Hey everybody, it’s Tyler and Logan here. We’re here today with Episode #1 of the Fitness Money Podcast. Logan, how’s it going? Logan: It’s going good. I’m ready to kick start this thing. Tyler: Yes. It’s going to be fun. So we wanted to kind of share with you guys today a little bit about why we started this podcast and what you guys can expect to see over the next few months and hopefully over the next few years. Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
  • 2. Logan: Yeah. It should be a lot of fun. Just by doing this, I think we’re going to learn a lot from each other. We’re, of course, going to be spreading it out. Everyone is going to be able to listen in for free, the big old charge of zero dollars for this podcast. We’ll be giving high quality information. It should be a lot of fun. Tyler: Yes, absolutely. We’re expecting to become millionaires off that zero fee right there. The reason why we started the Fitness Money Podcast and we’ll just shorten it up to Fit Money Podcast is because we’re frustrated with seeing a lot of our friends who are in the fitness fields and the personal training fields and they’re just struggling to get by. They’re living paycheck to paycheck. There’s a better way. There are a lot of easier ways to make money online and Logan and I have both proved it, each making multiple six figures in the fitness industries. We want to teach you guys how to do that, too, how to build your business, Tyler: And not just online too. You’ve done it quite a bit more than I have but in the offline world just by taking similar tactics, in many cases the same tactics, leveraging online stuff for the brick and mortar personal training hands on business, you can become very successful by doing that. Logan: Yeah, absolutely. If all you did was just get your clients on autopilot, you raised your fees, and decreased the amount of time you spent actually training them, instantly you make more money. There are a million tricks we’re going to share with you guys about making more money with your private clients, making more money with boot camps, and making more money online. It’s going to be a fun podcast to be a part of. Tyler: Yes I guess we should speak a little bit on—we’re going to go on our back stories here—why we are qualified to do this. Like you said, we both run over a six-figure business at this point. It wasn’t always that way. We certainly didn’t start out this good. It took some time, some learning, and a lot of money spending that on education in order to get to this point. Logan: So where do you want to start? Tyler: All right. Let’s take it away. Let’s just kind a lead in Logan, why don’t you share your story? I’ll just kind of moderate and throw in some, “Remember that story” and “Tell them about this kind of things” while we go. Why don’t you share to our listeners why you’re qualified to help people learn to make more money in the fitness industry? Logan: Okay. Well, currently I have too many websites to count that sell mostly books and DVDs. I primarily focus on the online realm, teaching people through those courses as well as partnering with other people. I’ve got different side projects going on all the time but through all these courses, I have marketed and taught people all across the world. I’d say full on a third of my customers are from outside of the US so not only am I not just focused on the Santa Cruz, California market but I’m not even trying to stay within the U.S. itself. But it didn’t start this way. In fact, first when I was going to get started I formed my personal training business with a faulty belief that if you build it, they will come. That does not work at all. It literally took Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
  • 3. me something like six months to get my first client, I’m kind of ashamed to admit. It was though, thankfully once I started the business and realized that no, they don’t just start showing up at your door —I didn’t even have a place of business. I was doing in-home and part-training and that sort of thing, so they didn’t even have a place to show up at the door—but by starting that and realizing that it wasn’t working at all, that’s when I started learning how to actually go out there and start marking yourself. Still, it was a long slow process. From there, I got a few clients and at the same time, I was observing all these other people whom I was buying products from, books and courses online. I was like, “If they’re doing it, why can’t I?” So I got started and I’ve launched my first product online at a site called LostArtofHandBalancing.com with an old public domain book on hand-balancing which is not your biggest market in the world, people that want to learn how to do handstands, but there was something to get started. From there, it just kept growing. Tyler: For those of you guys who don’t know out there, a public domain product means Logan didn’t even create the program. Public domain basically means it’s a book or some sort of informational product you’re legally allowed to reprint and distribute and make money off of. Logan: You can use any way you want. In the future, I think it would be a good idea to get an entire podcast on that because I’m not sure I would have started my business. It definitely would have been much later without the public domain and I’ve really grown in my business a lot off of that stuff. So it wouldn’t be the same without it. It’s really the quick start and the easiest way to get started. Tyler: Yes. It could be the easiest way to get started. If you don’t have a big idea already, you can just take somebody else’s big idea from a hundred years ago and just start building your business around that. Logan: Yes. I mean like I said, I don’t want to get all on the public domain but those people spent all their time writing great books which really have stood the test of time. Why not use their knowledge? You’re helping them out and spreading their word. Help yourself out, too. Tyler: Sure. So Logan, since I know you so well, why don’t you share with these guys what you were doing? What job did you have when you first started your internet company? Logan: I was working at a natural food store by the name of Staff of Life working as a stocker. I had worked my way up from bagger. I didn’t want to be a cashier but I worked my way up to the point where I was actually buying the different products within the store but I was making a grand total of $12 an hour. So even as a personal trainer, like my first client, I was charging $25 an hour. I was still stoked on that because I was making a whole lot more plus it was cash on hand so it was nice right there. From that job, because I didn’t have a family or a house to support, it didn’t take too long with the online business to have money coming in from that to surpass that $12-an-hour job. Tyler: Yeah. Nowadays, I’m sure you could probably just make money online in a few days if you wanted to, right? Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
  • 4. Logan: Absolutely. If I needed to start over, I have all the knowledge on what to do. Even if I didn’t have a list or anything, there will be ways to do it. Tyler: Sure. So how long did it take you to make your first $5000-month online. Logan: First $5000-month online was, I think, one year after I launched that first product. The first product I was selling for, I think, $39, maybe $39.95, and that sold out. I’d sold over a thousand bucks the first day and this was starting without anything. Mind you, I had zero marketing knowledge. The only thing I was learning from was seeing what other people were doing and then trying to copy them. I tell people I made every mistake you could possibly make except the fact I just kept going, I got started, I did it, and I learned from there because actually doing it is the best teacher there possibly is. Tyler: Absolutely. I’m glad you brought that up because you guys need to learn that one fact early and now is the best time to learn it. I’ve known Logan for a long time and one of his greatest strengths is he takes action and he gets shit done. It takes very imperfect action. You know how I mean Logan? That’s what people need to understand. Logan: Are you saying I’m not perfect? Tyler: Right? People just need to do something to get closer to their goals. Logan: I see it with my coaching clients. People that are trying to start their own business, a lot of them are hung up on the same thing. They don’t think their product’s good enough. Whatever they put together, by having that idea that it has to be perfect, they’re shooting themselves in the foot because it’s never going to be perfect. If you’re waiting for that point, you’re never get to get it out there. The great thing about online, especially if you’re doing digital products and everything, is you can always update them so just get something out now. You can always make it better in the future. Chances are you’ll just move on to the next thing, maybe come back to it some few years down the road but it’s how it goes. Tyler: Right on. Well, do you remember the time when you had your first $10,000-month? Logan: Yes. Well, actually let me rewind a little bit. I quit my job just after I launched my second product. So I had the hand-balancing book then I put together a higher dollar course on hand balancing once again. If they buy one product, they’re probably interested more. So I put together a higher package priced product then I was making more money than I was so I quit my job. From there, I was able to focus more and release a couple more products. My first $10,000-month was about a year and a half after I started my business, I believe. What really happened there was I had started learning about the whole product launch model and I put together a launch once again. It was actually a re-launch of that second product I had except it was even bigger at this point so I was able to break that $10,000-month barrier, which was a lot of money to me at that time. Now if I only made $10,000, I would not be happy. Bills will not be paid at that point. Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
  • 5. Tyler: Yes. You start to get used to the fact that you’re good at what you do in business and stuff and then that $10,000 seems like less and less. With that being said, though, you guys at home, if you’re earning $10,000 online, don’t even take that number in your head. What you’ve going to think about is just making that first dollar because that’s the most important thing. That proves you’re taking action and that’s what you really need to do. So share with us more what mistakes you made, Logan. How did you really move you way up from making your first dollar to that point of making your $10,000-month? Logan: Well, one of the things that was really a big holding point, something that held me back in the beginning was creating websites. I’d see what everyone else was doing. I said, “How did they do this?” and I am something of a control freak. I’m still trying to get over that, trying to do everything by myself, but in the beginning, that is what I wanted to do and I suffered for it. So one of the things I wanted to do learn how to do was how to create a website. Eventually, I did do that and I learned basic HTML. Now, everything’s run on blogs so it’s super simple to do. For me, I thought that was great because I’m a very self-reliant person. I want to be able to go in there and change something or to be able to put something up instantly. When we got the idea for this podcast, we’re like okay, register the domain name, I can have a website up within an hour. I can have that set up, ready to go. I like to be able to do that rather than waiting on a web person. That’s probably because my first website was actually built by a web person and I spent $800, which to me was a lot at that time for a single-page website. It was not a good deal and I was not happy with it. It took forever to get up. So after that, that’s when I decided I want to be able to do it myself. Now that’s not for everyone. I know you don’t work with your websites. You have a person that does that for you. Tyler: Yes. I don’t spend any time on that just because it’s not a strength of mine but it’s great you mentioned that nowadays, everything’s run of off blog formats and even a technological retard like myself—sorry, that’s probably not the best word to say on the podcast—I can really get a lot of stuff done through WordPress and stuff like that. A great idea, Logan, in the future we should do an episode where we just literally walk somebody through setting up their blog in 30 minutes or less. We just have you go step by step. We’ll put that on a shelf for later. Look out for that in the future, guys. Logan: Yes, I think that’s a good idea. Like you said, for me that was a big thing so I would be able to move fast and be able to put up web pages and update everything. Actually talking about the blog, I created HTML websites at the beginning. Blogs were definitely there in the day but they weren’t nearly as popular as they were now so it took a long time for me to get a blog and then to be updating and putting regular articles on there. In the beginning, I really had zero marketing knowledge. I had spent some money on pay-per-click in order to get traffic. I didn’t even know anything about SEO at all. Had I known that stuff at the beginning, I could have grown my business so much faster but because I was missing all those pieces, it was a slow start but, like I said, I got started, I kept moving, and it’s just been growing and compounding year after year. • 6. Tyler: Yes. I imagine you’re the same way as I am. Your biggest lessons came from your biggest mistakes, right? Logan: Yes. One of the big mistakes that you’ve just reminded me of was after I quit my job, I wasn’t really paying attention to my income and expenses all that much, my cash flow. This was something that I definitely paid for. I was using credit cards really to grow my business, buying courses and buying whatever I needed, software and different things to get started. There wasn’t a whole bunch in there but by not paying attention to cash flow, which I think is a critical thing for everyone to do, you don’t need to do your books. Once again, have another person to do that if you’re not a bookkeeper and most people don’t want to do that at all but know where your money is coming and going out so that you’re definitely keeping that positive wherein you can be on top of that rather than just one day, you wake up and “Oh crap! I’m in a mountain of debt” or something like that. You definitely want to avoid that because that just weighs on your soul, it causes so much stress, and it really becomes hard to dig yourself out of a hole like that. Tyler: Sure. That’s a great piece of advice for everybody when they’re getting started. Awesome. So you started out, you learned some lessons, and you started building your online business. Where has it gone since that $10,000-month? Give us an idea of what your days looked like right now. Let your listener know what does Logan Christopher do now? Logan: Well, what Logan Christopher does now is always changing. It’s really adapting. The biggest thing that I’ve done correct in my business is not just hanging my flag on a single product. That works for some people if you have something that has mass appeal, for instance, Mike Geary with The Truth About Abs. He took what that one thing and ran with it until it was multi-millions of dollars. Now he has some other stuff added on top of it but he really focused on that. That’s one model if what you have works for you and if you can really focus on that. For me, hand balancing is not an aptitude with a market. It couldn’t possibly work. I couldn’t create multimillions of dollars off that alone. Instead of going deep on that one thing, I decided to go wide. I covered all the different aspect. If people were into hand balancing, they’re probably into tumbling and gymnastics and doing hard core. So even though I couldn’t create all those products myself, I found some in public domain I could use. I partnered up with other people that have offerings with that. For instance, parkour, I haven’t really done that but a lot of people are on my list are interested in that so I was able to find someone who does that well. I’ve actually found a couple of different people and offer what they offer and make money off of that. So it’s grown in the sense that I’m offering a whole bunch more. I’ve got several different websites where I do this. I’ve partnered up with a whole bunch of different people and that’s something that’s actually growing quite big in the past month right now. We’re still working on all the details and seeing how this whole partnership thing with some of the strongest people in the world in their different areas is going to all come together. Tyler: So it sounds like you’ve got some big plans for the future. Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
  • 7. Logan: Yes, always big plans for the future. It’s always growing. It’s never getting any easier. It is continually evolving in what I’m doing. Right now what I’m working on, because I’ve grown so much and done so much myself, really working on them all if I need to do everything for myself because you can only rely on one person and that’s yourself, which is useful to have. It’s going to help you to get things done to be self reliant like that but it can also get you trapped into where, if you’re doing everything yourself, you can’t focus your time properly on the best use of your time. Right now, I’m working on getting it set up so I have people and systems in place to do a lot more for me so I’m able to step back and work more on doing stuff like marketing and content creation and creating more products, that sort of thing. Tyler: Yes, that’s fantastic. That’s something that every entrepreneur has to go through at some point. They have to realize I don’t have all the time in the world and there’s no way I can get this all done by myself and you’ve got to find people that can do what you don’t want to do. It’s something that we all have to go through at some point as our business grows. Logan: It’s also the beauty of online is when there’s a whole bunch of leverage already built into what you can do. You’re basically just having a website with the product up there that you don’t need to continually spend time on. That’s a system that’s already in place so being able to leverage that, In that sense I do but now I need to focus more on not just building those systems there but systems with other people involved because there is manual work involved in certain things I’m doing, especially partnered with these other people and getting results for everyone involved. Tyler: Yes, systems—that’s a great topic to touch on real quick while you’re talking about it. We are talking a lot about the online world because that’s really your specialty but what you guys will find is that as a personal trainer, as a boot camp runner, even if you’re just starting out in a park, building a reliable system from the start is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Because you’re going to find that somebody enters your funnel, they start on a path and as they walk down that path, they’re going to be consistently be converted into a customer online or into a client personally or into at least a really strong prospect that eventually will become a customer or client. That’s just something that is so important that we’re going to end up talking about and sharing with you guys, all about how you can set up these basic systems, how you can set up these foundations, so that you can basically make more money in your fitness business. Logan, your specialty is online so why don’t you share with these people kind of a snapshot of all the things you hope to teach them over the time or on this podcast? Logan: Okay, there’s a whole lot that goes into running an online empire. I won’t quite put myself there but I’m working towards building it. So setting up and building websites, once again these are things that you can have other people do for you or you can learn to do yourself. You have in that the content that has to go out there. Content these days, it’s not just written words but you have videos. You can do podcasts, audios, all sorts of different things and there are systems you can leverage there, methods that you can use that will allow you to take just like one piece of content like this podcast here and allow it to be in different multiple places at once which is something that is becoming more essential today. So that can be something we touch on. Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
  • 8. Coming up with products and ideas. Even if you’re an offline person and you’re a personal trainer, if you come up with things that you can offer your clients, let’s say you just write a book even if it’s a book that —although you can easily sell books on Amazon these days—if you can just have something printed, that gives you credibility, something you can give your clients that will give them a foundation. There are all sorts of different ways you can leverage the creation of products. Marketing is a huge thing. There are tons and tons of ways that you can advertise online. You can get traffic through SEO, pay-per-click, videos, social media, and all sorts of things in there. Then how do you work with other people? Establishing affiliate relationships or joint ventures as well as talking with your customers. Customer service is something we can talk about as well but also the social media site. How do you grow that? It’s not my specialty but I’m working on that more and starting some results come from that area as well. So there’s really a whole bunch that goes into the online world. I would encourage people, even if you’re only focused on training clients, even just creating a simple blog for yourself, just to get into the rhythm of doing some writing or producing some content in that way, I think that’s a good thing you can just add the value to your clients that way. “Check me out.” You have that online presence but even through some simple stuff, even if you don’t want to create your own product, by producing good content out there and having it spread naturally even without focusing on marketing, sell other people’s stuff through affiliates and have that just be a side income stream, so that you can spend less time on personal training if you want. There’s so much to leverage there that if you just know some simple tactics really—and that’s stuff we’ll be teaching on this podcast in the future—these simple tactics can allow you to get some huge results. Just think about car payment or a house payment, whether you rent or have a mortgage. If you can have just some side project you have going online that pays for that, how much will that help you? Tyler: Even just a hundred bucks extra in your pocket each month, you could take your wife or your kids or yourself out to a fine dinner and enjoy your life a little bit more. That’s what we’re here to teach you guys. It’s just how you can leverage your ideas and your knowledge and you can become a more successful personal trainer either with your clients, with your boot camps, or online as well. Any thoughts, Logan, that we can add to this podcast before we take off for today? Logan: Well, just to cover the big idea. What we’re covering here is marketing strategies. It’s ways you can make more money by helping people because that’s something you need to understand. If you’re the best personal trainer in the world, that doesn’t matter too much. There are people that are making way more money than you that are way worst trainers. That’s an unfortunate thing. I wish it just came down to skill, how you made money, but you have to understand if you’re in business for yourself or even working for some other people, you still need to learn how to market yourself. By applying these things, by learning marketing, you’re going to be able to get so much more out of what you do. You’re going to be able to select the clients you work with. You’re going to be able to make Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
  • 9. your own hours much more. There are so many benefits like out of understanding marketing at least as well as you understand training. Tyler: Absolutely. Logan: Unfortunately, people can just take these ideas and really put out crap personal training ideas and health information. There are a lot of people out there that do understand marketing that aren’t that good at that job. We want you to be good at that side and also bring this to the table so you’re able to get much more and help more people because really what it comes down to is the more money that you make with your business, the more you’re helping people. Tyler: Right. If people vote with their dollars and so getting those dollars in your bank account tells you you’re doing something right. I’m glad you mentioned that whole personal trainer paradigm these days because I happen to work within some fitness facilities and I constantly see these trainers. They go and spend $500 on this seminar and $1,000 on this certification. You remember being there. Every time you go get a certification, you think that you’re going to go home and you’re going to command more money or that clients are going to come knocking, and they’re not. They are not going to come knocking. So learning how to— Logan: If you get a certification, they don’t come either. You build it. The only thing is when you learn how to market, put those systems in place, get those things running for you, then that’s what brings in the money. Certifications are all great and I hope you have many of them but also understand from the flipside, those people putting on those certifications are doing the marketing right to get you in there. We should talk about that, just the whole certification thing at some point. Tyler: Yeah, marketing behind the certifications. Because you guys can learn all the stuff you want and that’s something we could touch on real quick, too. It doesn’t matter if you’re providing a product or service. You do have to give something that works. If you’re the greatest marketer in the world and your stuff doesn’t work to some degree then you’re going to get kicked by the wayside. We’re not saying that you can be a total dope and still make a ton of m even though there are some people that are doing pretty good at that. What we want for you people out there that really care about personal training, that really care about their fitness business, that really just want to just make a good living out of it and also help a ton of people at it, we’re trying to help you guys find different avenues to make more income so that you guys can be more comfortable in your daily lives and really help people out more as well. Logan: Yeah. We’re going to do that in every different way we can, talking about the offline stuff, the online stuff, setting up systems, working with people, really everything as we go along with this weekly podcast. Tyler: Yes. I’m really excited to share all the tips that I’ve gleaned over the years because it has been a rough road and if there’s anything I really want to do, it’s the same thing with fat loss and building strength and conditioning, I don’t want people to have to go through the same speed bumps that I did. • 10. You would have really see it on the online world and I’ve gone through them in the training world and everything and it’s just terrible. When you’re working a part time job as a construction worker and then you’re trying to start a boot camp at the same time and nobody’s making any money, it’s just bad. Logan: That reminded me of something that people are going to get with this podcast is really an inside look at our businesses that they’re not going to be able to see. It can be just observing from the outside. By all means go to legendarystrength.com, sign up on there so you can see all the things I’m doing and learn my training information and Tyler, go to GarageWarrior.com and see what he’s doing, make sure you’re on there. With this podcast, we’re going to be taking you inside like doing product launches, how we work with affiliates, that sort of thing. I know you just had a recent launch. I just had a recent thing and that’d be great to go over what we did in there, what worked, what didn’t, what can be improved upon next time, and the big learning lesson. You’re going to be get an inside look that you really can’t get with most people. You have to understand most people that teach marketing, a lot of times you’re not really seeing what they’re actually doing. Often times, all they teach is sort of surface level stuff but here on this free podcast where we’re charging zero dollars once again, you’re actually going to go inside and just from that you can model and learn from what we’re doing including our mistakes and doing them better yourself. Tyler: Yes. I’m really excited about talking about all that stuff. This is the type of podcast where if you guys are regular listeners and you don’t make any money, you might as well just give up already. Go get yourself a job working for a high school or college as an exercise teacher or something like that and just collect your paycheck and smile. But if you’re sick of not making enough money and you really want to make more money in the fitness business, this podcast is going to show you exactly how to do that in a number of different ways so be sure to stay tuned. We’re going to show you some awesome stuff over the next few months. Logan: So we’ve done about a half hour commercial for the podcast at this point almost but really, we are just both really excited about what we’re going to be doing over the coming weeks, months, and years with this. It should be a lot of fun. Tyler: Yes, absolutely. To wrap this episode up, we got kind of Logan’s back story. Next time, we’ll probably be talking about my back story and more about the brick and mortar style businesses. Then we’re going to jump two feet first into it and teach you guys exactly how to start building a strong foundation, how to avoid the mistakes we’ve made, and how you guys can hopefully make an extra hundred to a thousand dollars in your first 30 days of applying this information. Logan: It’s really easy to do. If simple steps can lead to huge breakthroughs as far as marketing, just doing a single thing right or putting your first product up there. It has become easier and easier and easier to make money online these days. It’s always easy to make money offline if you know how to do it. You don’t need to spend any money to do it. Of course, there are ways where you can spend money Copyright © 2013 FitnessMoney.com All Rights Reserved
