DSL is short for Digital Subscriber Line
The speeds for DSL Broadband in Ireland
varies from 1Mb to 24Mb.
DSL penetration in Ireland is estimated to be
around 17% of the overall market.
A lot of the DSL lines in Ireland belong to
Eircom, hence many Internet Providers such
as; Digiweb, Imagine use and resell these
lines to the public.

Defined
Cable Broadband is provided through the
lines in which TV is brought to households.
The advantage of Cable Broadband is a
business does not need a phone line. This
means overall lower costs due to no line
rental fee.
UPC is currently the biggest Cable provider in
Ireland.

Satellite Broadband is an Internet option for
Businesses and Households which are
located more than 5Km away from
‘activate exchange’.
Most expensive Broadband option available
in Ireland.
Provides adequate speeds for the
population living in rural areas. Eircom and
Satellite Broadband Ireland are the main
two providers of Satelitte Broadband.

Defined
Wireless Broadband is rapidly growing for
Business and Household users are Ireland.
Wireless refers to a wire free computer in the
office or house which is ‘linked to a
Broadband connection’.
Although this option is wire free the
connection cannot be sent to a computer
without a wireless router.

Eircom, Digiweb, Perlico, Imagine…s

Defined
‘ADSL is an abbreviation of asymmetric
digital subscriber line’ – broadband
provided through a telephone line.
Improves the ability to make phone calls
and download data at the same time.
Download speeds are much greater than
upload speeds. Maximum upload speeds
can be as big as 1Mb.

Defined
Mobile Broadband is in terms a form of
Wireless Broadband.
No wires, no restrictions and can be used
anywhere at anytime.
Requires USB Modem or commonly referred
