Introduction Secondary level 3-day grammar class for ESL students NETS 2 for teachers will be applied. I’ll be using grammar with a focused on the 8 parts of speech. Assume that every student owns a computer with internet access at school and at home.
Nets for teachers #2 Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers: a. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity b. develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress c. customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources d. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching
First day lesson plan The first 35 minutes will be used to work on the pre test. The last 15 minutes I’ll be giving them a brief explanation of what the parts of speech are and how many there are. The students will look up the definitions at their own time and will become ready for tomorrow’s class. If I notice any trouble with learning I will provide different styles of learning in tomorrow’s class.
First day class pt.1 Pre-test: Identify the parts of speech The storm loomed over the city.   Jerry leisurely ate his lunch, and then took a long nap. Gee whiz, Officer! The robbers are escaping! Griselda combed her long frizzy hair while leering at her captives When he's told to clean his bedroom, the little boy hides in the tool shed Bosco showed up for work two hours late.  Priscilla believed that a flying saucer had landed outside her house. Someone painted smiley faces on all the melons in the supermarket.
Post-test answers Verb Adverb Interjection Conjunction Adjective Noun Pronoun preposition
First day class pt.2 Traditional grammar classifies words based on eight parts of speech: the verb, the noun, the pronoun, the adjective, the adverb, the preposition, the conjunction, and the interjection. Each part of speech explains not what the word is, but how the word is used. In fact, the same word can be a noun in one sentence and a verb or adjective in the next.
First day class pt.3 “Remember to look up information on your own about the 8 parts of speech!!!” “You will have a test the day after tomorrow!!!!”
Second day lesson plan I’ll be teaching them what each parts of speech mean. I will provide them with examples, games, information and ask them to review it at home. Ask questions and make sure they know the 8 parts of speech for tomorrows test. Homework. I will provide printed out papers with the definitions and examples to be reviewed at home.
Second day: Class pt.1 The lesson: Parts of Speech NOUN: a person, place, or thing. Can be the subject or object of a sentence. Ex: cat, horse, mother, Denmark PRONOUN: a word that replaces or stands for ("pro" = for) a noun. Ex: he, she, it VERB: an action word. Ex: sit, laugh, screw ADVERB: a word that describes or modifies a verb. Ex: carefully, quickly, wisely. Also sometimes modifies an adjective. ("She was very tall." 'Very' is an adverb modifying 'tall,' which in turn is an adjective modifying 'she'.) Adverbs usually, but not always, end in "-ly". (However, not every word ending in "ly" is an adverb: "friendly," for example, is an adjective.)
Second day: Class pt.2 ADJECTIVE: a word that describes or modifies a noun. Answers the questions "how many," "what kind," etc. Ex: happy, suicidal, red, dangerous PREPOSITION: (literally "pre-position") a word that indicates the relationship of a noun (or noun phrase) to another word. Examples of prepositions are to, at, with, for, against, across. CONJUCTION: a word that connects other words or groups of words. EX: and , but, or, so. INTERJECTION: any member of a class of words expressing emotion, distinguished in most languages by their use in grammatical isolation, as Hey! Oh! Ouch! Ugh! Cheers! and Hurray!
Second day: Class pt.3 Will: I will go tomorrow. (verb)   He wrote his will and left everything to the dog.  (noun) Her: It was her fault I was late. (adjective)  The fault is hers. (pronoun) Swimming: Swimming is a good form of exercise. (noun)  Sharks were swimming in the bay. (verb) Chinese: The Chinese are a hard-working people. (noun)   Jan loves Chinese food. (adjective) Best: This is my best dress. (adjective)  Walter dances best when the music is fast. (adverb)
Second day: Class pt.3 “Homework: provide 1 example of each parts of speech discussed in class. Use Microsoft word or note pad.” “Remember to do your homework for and extra 5 point on the test!!!”
Third day lesson plan Finish discussing. Review the parts of speech: verb, noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, or interjection. Give them a few examples and give the post-test. The post-test is going to be a multiple choice internet test.

Third day Class pt.2 Post-test: Identify the following using the parts of speech He will have to work until midnight.  The blue light pulsated with an eerie glow when Gus touched it. Frenchfries and ketchup is a popular American snack.   Jacques speaks French, English, and a bit of Chinese.   Katy didn’t mind being a hostage for the bank robbers, but she hated to be seen on television with wrinkled clothes.    Watch it, buddy! That’s my foot you're standing on.    On the arid planet of Pluto, the sun sank beneath the horizon in a burst of green light.    He turned around slowly to confront the alien from outer space.
