9. Health Insurance Exchange Background
• The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was passed
on March 23, 2010. The law requires states to participate in 1
of 3 options:
– Establish and operate a state-run exchange
– Partake in a regional exchange (multi-state)
– Federally-administered exchange
• States must have infrastructure operational by January 1, 2014
• A Health Insurance Exchange (HIX) A central marketplace for
citizens to compare:

Notas do Editor Oracle’s EA principles are designed around 2 core concepts: Agility and SustainabilityTo achieve agility and sustainability, the enterprise architecture needs to be:Business-driven – many organizations have started EA initiatives from a technology perspective, focused on enterprise standards, project gating and compliance to corporate standards. To build a sustainable enterprise architecture, it needs to be rooted in an organization’s business strategy. For example, you need to first understand the operating model you want to implement for your business i.e. the level of standardization and integration To build an enterprise architecture you need to focus on building the future state of business processes and capabilities, rather than modeling current stateTime to Value – should focus on enabling line of business projects and demonstrating business successBest Practices – a sustainable enterprise architecture should strive to provide the organization with industry best practices and reference architectures Oracle’s Architecture Development Process is about discipline and structureProcessPractical approach to EADriven by Business Strategy, focused on building an Architecture VisionJust-Enough Just-in-Time for solution development effortsMatures Iteratively & EvolutionaryCan be Enforced Oracle Enterprise Architecture FrameworkPortfolioCollection of best practices, proven artifacts and reference architectures that can be leveraged by project teams to reduce risk and ensure best practice implementationAligns with customer and industry standard frameworks
