RADIO AND TELEVISION
Blast-off to the Future in CommunicationTechnology
Intro
 In the 1950’s when television and radio
started to become popular, there would be a
central station that would send out a signal so
that every user could receive the message.
 This signal was sent in a series of radio waves
from the central broadcasting station to the
antennas of the receiving television or radio
broadcasting unit.
Evolution
 In a sense the evolution inTV and radio media
resigns in the they way each unit receives
signals from transponders, which are any kind
of communications Satellite because they can
“transport,” “receive,” and “respond” to any
message.
 The firstTelevision Media Satellite was
invented in 1962 and it utilized microwave
technology instead of radio wave technology.
Continued…
 Microwave communication refers to the
technology of transmitting information by
the use of the radio waves whose
wavelengths are conveniently measured in
small numbers of centimeters.
 This technology was invented in 1962 but did
not become popular to the everyday
consumer until the 1990’s.
Today
 TodayTelevision media is acquired through
many different signals.The evolution ofTV
broadcasting is shifting from satellite
technology to the internet.
 With such inventions asThe “AppleTV” and
Hulu.com,Television broadcasting is
becoming very popular over the Internet.
 The AppleTV enables people to surf the web
through their television monitor severely
broadening the entertainment spectrum.
Radio Broadcasting
 Radio transmission is sent via radio waves
from a transmitter to a receiving antenna.
This was the traditional process by which
people acquired entertainment and news.
 This process of broadcasting from a single
frequency to an AM/FM radio has been the
popular standard for many years; however,
with the rise in efficiency in XM Radio,
satellite radio is gaining popularity.
Satellite Radio
 Satellite Radio uses a digital radio signal that
is relayed through many different satellites
which allows radio listeners to receive
messages throughout a larger geographical
area.
 Some of the popular names in Satellite Radio
are “Sirius,” “XM,” and “Worldspace.”
