1. Many CAD designers, managers and Design directors in the apparel and retailing field
are aware of color management or have heard of it, but they don’t know its capabilities or
how it can be implemented. Color is critical in design. But, without specific instruction
or reference, color evaluation and validation can be an expensive process. For more than
a decade, experts at Lectra have gained extensive experience in working together with
customers to propose and apply a color managed process in their design areas.
DEFINING THE PROCESS AND EXPECTATIONS
The following overview is intended as a guideline regarding the services that Lectra offers to customers
who use Lectra’s Design Solution (Kaledo) and/or other 3rd party design and graphic arts solutions.
The service is completely flexible and customized to the customer’s specific needs with the following
goals:
- Capture and communicate accurate color through the design and production process.
- Obtain accurate color on output devices with little or no color tweaking needed.
- Obtain consistent color on output devices
- Achieve this at various customer’s brands and 3rd party partners where applicable or possible.
Discovery: The purpose of this phase is to allow the Lectra project manager, a Senior Design Consultant,
who has experience in managing software implementation projects, as well as ongoing customer support
experience with our largest accounts, to assess the customers current workflows, pain points and
needs. Also to identify possible areas of improvement.
After the onsite review, the project manager will also develop and deliver a report detailing recommedations
for improving the customer’s processes. If desired, the project manager can provide a demo to illustrate
the benefits of color management using customer’s own color swatches or standards. The project manager
can also include a proposed on-site project to match customer’s needs.
Deliverables: After the onsite audit the Lectra project manager will deliver a report addressing the
following points:
- Printer and output workflows.
- Device Setup and Use, including spectrophotometers.
- Best Practices.

2. - Primer on Color Perception.
- High precision printer, monitor calibration and profiling.
- Where applicable, use of a spectrophotometer for capturing color.
- Other color sourcing and communication workflows.
- Calibration and profiling at multiple sites and/or business partners.
- Configuration of 3rd party RIP software.
- Assembly and ink charging of new printers.
Customized Action Plan: In addition, the Lectra Project Manager will provide a plan that supports
the implementation and new methodologies recommended ensuring the new processes can be integrated
successfully.
The scope of the plan can vary depending on the size of installation, complexity of processes and the
level of expertise in design software applications, etc.
Post Implementation Review: Once training has been completed, the Lectra Project Manager will
schedule a post follow-up review to ensure the project has been successfully implemented and expec-
tations met.
New printer profiles are typically needed every 6 to 12 mo. Usually, customers would rather have Lectra
create new printer profiles since we do it often and apply best practices.
