Sun
• Largest object in the solar system
• 4.5 billion years old
• Outer layer is 11,000 degrees F
• Solar Systems only star

                              http://z.about.com/d/space/1/5/Y/Q/sun_tour.jpg 2
Mercury
• Closest to the sun which makes it very very
  hot
• Smallest planet
• Rotates very slowly
• Has no moons

                            http://z.about.com/d/space/1/0/Z/Q/mercury_tour.jpg

                                                                                  3
Venus
• Has no atmosphere
• Very similar to Earth
• Has no moons
• Surface is very hot and dry

                                  http://mrsmarchant.com/PlanetVenusJLPNasaL.jpg

                                                                                   4
Earth
• Has one moon named Luna
• Only planet known to
   support life
• Has more exposed water
 than land

                   http://www.spacetoday.org/images/SolSys/Earth/EarthBlueMarbleWestTerra.jpg

                                                                                          5
Mars
• A lot like the earth
• Scientist believe at one time this planet had rivers,
streams, lakes and even an ocean.
• The only water on mars today is either frozen in the
  polar caps or underground.

            http://w3.umons.ac.be/~biologie/mars.gif 6
Jupiter
• At least 63 moons
• Biggest of all the planets
• Made of a big ball of gas
• Has 3 rings that are
    very hard to see
                           http://www.childrensmuseum.org/cosmicquest/fieldguide/images/jupiter_b.jpg

                                                                                                 7
Saturn
     • At least 34 moons
     • 2nd biggest planet
     • There are multiple rings that can be seen with
       a small telescope.
     • Rings are 169,800 miles wide, but very thin

http://scienceblogs.com/startswithabang/upload/2009/10/saturn_when_one_ring_doesn 8
t_ru/saturnPic1.jpg
Uranus
• Spins on its side ( unlike any other planet or
  moon)
• Has rings
• Has 27 moons
• Coldest planet
• Can be seen with the
   unaided eye
                          http://astroyogisays.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/uranus.jpg

                                                                                        9
Neptune
• Has six rings that circle the planet
• Discovered in 1846
• 13 known moons
• One of the slowest
  moving planets
• Has very violent weather
                               http://picturesofoursolarsystem.com/images/neptune.jpg

                                                                                        10
