It underlies all of Google now, from search to chat to
maps to YouTube. It's even on the sacrosanct front
page of Google itself.

                     But what is it?

It puts people, places and things into Web search in a more meaningful way by creating
a full profile for them, instead of just robotically ranking their Web pages.
It gives the people behind these profiles more control over how they appear in search.
by indexing intentional interactions instead of just hyperlinks, Google hopes to make its
search results more meaningful, useful and targeted, and thus more profitable.

Grouping people into circles is like grouping all your social networks into one place.
You can post private stuff to Friends (i.e. people you'd usually have on Facebook),
public stuff to Followers (i.e. Twitter people) and professional stuff to business folk
(i.e. LinkedIn people). I think that is one of the huge benefit Google+

And there are a few advantages to setting one of these up:

If you connect your website to Google through a Google+ badge or icon, your Google+
activities and page start to appear in the search results

Hangouts look like an amazing way to broadcast in real time. Allowing up to 10
Google+ users to get together online together after installing a simple Voice & Video
plugin on your computer.

For your business, you could have customers join you for a session on your
latest product launch or a “how to” conference call / live chat session.

I read somewhere that the leader in the Hangout will be able to share screens soon,

The interesting bit is that once you’ve +1d a page or added a business/person to
your circles you can broadcast to them as your company. You can also, by
organising them in circles speak to the right people at the right time with
messages that should be of interest to them.

When a user adds you, you can engage with them as your business not just as
Yourself.

And because Google + content is interrelated with the search results, it brings search
and social together. When you +1 something, it reaches all your Google+ users,
but also everyone who uses Google (100m users / 68% market) that is connected
to them in some way.

Future Example:
You are in Glasgow and fancy an Indian Curry but are not sure which restaurant
to go to. On your mobile, you search for “good Indian restaurant Glasgow” –
the restaurant your connection enjoyed & shared will be mentioned in a
“Mash-Marketing shared this” type link under the restaurant website and the more
connections a business has the more likely it is to show up in the SERPs
because of these type of links in future

To promote Google+ page further, Google allows you to search +brandname and
automatically add their Google+ pages to your circles -
Conclusion
If we rushed to social media fearing that we would be left behind if we didn’t,.
then it probably explains the phenomenal rise of Google+ with its 100m users.

Because of Google’s dominance in the search game, incorporating your
business into the search results in a number of ways is essential and social now
includes a Google profile and business page. It is too big an opportunity to miss.

Google+ allows you to build relationships with users, engage with them in real time
through very targeted messages, use video chat and even forums to break
news and/or get to know people better. It is about getting to know people as well
as engaging with people you already know and being able to keep them apart.

In future, just as we are networking online, we will engage in greater geographic
distances with users we have discovered online – as clients, partners, virtual friends

Weaving Identity and sharing into all their products is Google’s aim and it will
ultimately transform the way we use the internet one step further than the social
platforms have already managed to do.
