2. FIJI: Committee set up to help foreign investors
Fiji's interim government has set up a top-level committee to look into difficulties being
experienced by foreign investors. Interim Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, says the
committee has been established to examine the large number of complaints made to him
by investors facing problems getting their projects off the ground. The Committee will be

the CEO's and Directors of all key government departments and agencies. The President
of the Fiji-Australia Business Council, Caz Tebbut Dennis says the fact that Laillun Khan
has been appointed chair shows the interim government is serious about the initiative.

You can use the following quote from the Prime Minister:
"The Interim Govt is fully committed to encouraging private investment both local and foreign in line with
provisions of existing policies and laws.
Our determination to rid Fiji of abuse of statutory privileges and corruption would contribute significantly
to our efforts in creating a more conducive business environment both for local and foreign investors".
Once again, thank you.

Thanks for your concern & action regarding land sales policy in Fiji. I have been advised by the Hon
Minister of Lands & Mineral Resources, Mr. Tevita Vuibau to clarify that all lands sales restrictions
imposed by the Military Council in December 2006 has been lifted by the Interim Government. The
restriction was just about two weeks. Its primary objective was to see number of land sales & and whether
proper procedures were followed & also see possible ways to improve service delivery. Everything is now
back to normal.
It is indeed sad that people are blowing things out off proportion without getting facts from us. Thanks for
your support. Things in Fiji are normal and safer for the tourists & investors than before. We wish you all
the best in your effort to promote us from that end.
