Theseus THE GREATEST HERO OF THE ATHENS BY GUIDO CASTELLANI III
HIS CHILDHOOD Was born to an Athenian King, Aegeus Lived with his mother in the south Moves boulder to retrieve sword and shoes
The Road To AtHeNs When he reached maturity, he was sent to Athens On the road, he encountered bandits!
Procrustes One of the bandits Theseus encountered Used iron bed to torture victims Theseus enacted same punishment on him He arrives in Athens
Medea Medea, of the story of Jason, became the king’s advisor. She realizes Theseus threatens her possession She convinced Aegeus, who does not recognize Theseus as his son, to kill him  By poison Her evil, cold-hearted scheme failed
The minotaur and the labyrinth The Minotaur was a monster who lived in a Labyrinth Theseus was sent to kill him With Ariadne’s help, he found the Minotaur asleep He slew him
Ariadne Although she set sail for Athens, she never arrived. There were two stories of her fate.
Aegeus’s Death If Theseus was to return alive, he would set a white sail He, unfortunately, forgot to do so, so his father jumped off a cliff
The fair Theseus Theseus ran his government as a democracy
His Only weakness His love of adventure! For the sake of excitement, he helped kidnapped Hades’s wife.
The just Theseus He arranged the proper burials for the seven chieftains who had died during war on Thebes He did not allow his army to loot Thebes
The chair of forgetfulness! In order to stop Theseus, Hades had him sit the Chair of Forgetfulness! But Hercules saved him!
But… Theseus marries Ariadne’s sister, Phaedra, who falls in love with Hippolytus. He rejects Phaedra, so she kills herself, accusing him of rape. Theseus banishes him. Theseus is mysteriously killed by King Lycomedes
