6. QUECHUA
ā¢Located: 2300-3500 meters above
sea level.
ā¢Flora: maize and wheat. Tomatoes,
papayas and peaches.
ā¢Fauna: birds: young eagle and the
sparrow hawk (gavilƔn). Also the
gray fox and the puma.
ā¢Weather: dry with drastic changes.
7. SUNI
ā¢Located: 3500-4100 meters above
sea level.
ā¢"Suni" means "high" in Quechua.
ā¢Flora: hardy plants and bushes
(arbustos), with very few trees.
Quinoa and potatoes.
ā¢Fauna: guinea pig (cuy).
ā¢Weather: cold and dry.
8. PUNA
Puna: ācold high Landā.
Located: 4,100 to 4,800
Fauna: llama, vicuƱa,
guanaco and alpaca.
Flora: Vegetation doesn t
grow a lot. Some species:
ichu and the Puca Raimondi.

ā¢ Located: 4,800 and 6,768.
ā¢ Characterized by glaciers and
snow-capped peaks: Huascaran.
ā¢ The weather: extremely cold (-0)
ā¢ Flora: moss (musgo) and liquens.
ā¢ Fauna: Some animals and birds
such as the condor
10. RUPA-RUPA OR HIGH JUNGLE
ā¢ Rupa-Rupa: āardentā
ā¢ Located: 1,000 to 400 above the sea
level.
ā¢ Flora: trees: quina, oje and barbasco.
Flowers: orchids and begonias. In the
valleys: coffee, tea, cocoa and fruits.
ā¢ Fauna: gallito de las rocas, oso de
anteojos and the monkey choro de cola
amarilla.
ā¢ The weather: warm and humid
11. OMAGUA OR LOW
JUNGLE
ā¢ Omagua or Low Jungle: āRegion of
the fresh water fishā

ā¢ Fauna: mammals, reptiles, birds
and insects. Fish: paiche.
ā¢ Flora: Brazil nut tree, Mahogany,
and the hallucinogenic ayahuasca.
