A classic and ironic example is of the fallen giant is Kodak, who helped popularize photography among consumers but then couldn’t keep up with new technology. They basically created a market and became the leader, but they failed to change fast enough and lost. Every business, whether a technology based company or not, is feeling this pressure today. This shift in IT is real, and it’s affecting businesses across the board, even the companies we consider cornerstones of industry. 52% of the Fortune 500 companies have disappeared in the last 15 years. Some companies like GE are adapting and continuing to lead. Others like Kodak failed to change fast enough and lost, allowing for new agile business like Paypal to take their place in the F500. Every business, large or small, whether it’s a technology based company or not, is feeling this pressure today.
