Marco Belzoni was an Italian explorer and archaeologist who worked in Egypt in the early 19th century. He discovered the tomb of pharaoh Seti I in the Valley of the Kings in 1817 and helped remove its treasures and artifacts. Belzoni made important contributions to Egyptology through his explorations and excavations of tombs, temples and other sites along the Nile.
