The document summarizes discussions from a design team meeting about a proposed mid-air masterplan for UTM. The team analyzed characteristics of mid-air elements and studied how to interpret scientific data on wind and air movement into architectural designs. They proposed a masterplan with suspended walkways, towers, and science centers connected by an information corridor designed to enhance pedestrian experiences. The corridor would include interactive surfaces and height variations to create excitement. The team's formulas relate the masterplan's spaces and stations to concepts like size, circulation, control, integration and interaction to realize their mid-air philosophy.

• The Virtual Space in
architecture means the use of
THE some technology or method
to create an unreal space to
increase or reduce the actual
space.
VIRTUAL METHOD:
SPACE • There are three basic method
to create a virtual space.
1. Mirror
2. Painting
3. Opening
18. Mirror ?
• Mirror can copy the image, it
is the most well – know
method to create the virtual
space. Someone considered it
is the gate to the other world.
• Now we have some high –
tech things not only copy your
image but also can keep it!

23. Introduction of Mid Air Masterplan
Proposal
• Mid Air masterplan proposal circulate
around the ideation of human
responses towards height to trigger
excitement, adrenaline rush and
amazement in experiencing the journey
from point A to point B.
• Why we resort to Height? Since we are
playing with air element, we decided to
take it up vertically where senses are
triggered rather differently at perceived
height difference levels.
• Despite the height manipulation, each
individual hubs are designed with a hint
of playfulness to maximize energy level
of users and give the sense of being
elevated.
24. Issues
• High density traffic

30. PARAMETERS TO THE MASTERPLAN
( INFOs-POWERED CORRIDOR )
a. DEFINING HEIGHT LEVEL
b. VISUAL & CONNECTIVITY
c. PEDESTRIAN & VEHICLE ACCESS
d. CREATING SPACES THAT EVOKE EXCITEMENT & EXPERIENCES
e. NATURE REFERENCES
f. CREATING OTHER MID-AIR POSSIBILITIES
31. a.DEFINING HEIGHT LEVEL
• Gravity pull vs anti-gravity
• Fear of height/ death from fall = mid
air experiences/excitement/thrill
• Challenging it = create Xgames activities
that suits UTM Youth Spirits?
• Jump fact – layman vs
professionals/athletes
33. b.VISUAL & CONNECTIVITY
• HIGH + VERTICAL ELEMENTS IN
UTM
• MINARETS = VISIBLE LANDMARK
+ ECHO TRANSMIT & RECEIVING
• RELATING MID-AIR CORRIDOR TO
MOTHER NATURE’S MID AIR
REFERENCES
– A CIRCULATION SPINE = ??
• USING HUMAN STEREOSCOPIC
VISUAL LIMIT AS A CIRCULATION
STRATEGY – KEEP GOING
FORWARD TO MINIMISE TRAFFIC
CONGESTION
34. MINARETS =TOWER:
CHARACTER - ECHOES OF AZAN
VISIBLE LANDMARK = ECHOLOCATION IN MID AIR (BATS &
SEVERAL NOCTURNALS) + LIGHTS DURING NIGHT
COMMUNICATION TOWER = TRANSMIT & RECEIVING
WAVELENGTH – SOUNDS VIBRATION THROUGH MID AIR
HIGH GROUND TO LOW GROUND = EFFICIENTCY IN
TRANSMITTING – LESS OBSTRUCTION WIDER COVERAGE
35. c. PEDESTRIAN & VEHICLE ACCESS
ISSUES:
• Lack of parking spaces.
• Need to travel far (even with vehicle ; car etc).
• Bus services..create traffic + environmental
problem
• Pedestrian path sometimes hazardous – not
maintained & very near to road (safety) not wide
enough + no proper shades + exposed to vehicle
smog (comfort value).
36. SOLUTION
• Provide additional parking spaces
• Introduce central hub = transit
area
>>From vehicle-parking-transit-
walking-faculties
>>Central hub – attractive programs:
-UTM information kiosks +
discussion zones + WiFi facilities
-24 hour Fast food & delivery ( McD,
Ayamas etc)
-Bookstore ( MPH bookstore,
Kinokuniya etc.)
-Other Retails ( Guardian, , basic
Groceries etc.
37. d. CREATING SPACES THAT EVOKE
EXCITEMENT & EXPERIENCES
FEAR OF HEIGHT / FALL = MID-AIR EXCITEMENT!
HIGH + ELEVATED ABOVE LANDSCAPE = PERSPECTIVES
HIGHER GROUND = HIGHER WIND SPEED
• The hub – 2 floors. 1st = programs 2nd = open landscape/garden
• Hanging planter pots + roots growing
• The corridor – Fin designed to rotated at certain time- fixed angular less than
100 deg. (Human Stereoscopic Visual Angle) –forcing them to move forward to
enjoy view
- Different stepping : FAST – WALK – GLAZING to create gasping moment whenever
the journey is done
• The linkages – points of interval – linked science centre (above 4th floor) to the
hubs – ground (parking) – corridor – college zones . Open air + high railings of
reinforced glazing to ignites fear of height – the experience/excitement

45. [Space] .[Station]
• Space = size + connection +
direction + extension +
circulation
• Station = controllable + integration
+ interaction
46. [Space]
• Size = height + weight + length
[Height is a main point to
show the mid-air]
• Direction = 2D direction + 3D direction
• Radial symmetrical human flow. Gravity? go a

• Circulation = consumption + Regeneration
• Regeneration to GBI
47. [Station]
Controllable = control + able
[Mid-air structure is a unstable system
need a comprehensive Control ]
Integration = smart + helpful
Interaction = active + efficient
