For the convenience of devotees, arrangements of fooding and lodging have been made at Bhimbali and Lenchauni between Gaurikund and Kedarnath, he said. The devotees have to traverse a distance of 17 km on foot from Munaktya to Kedarnath to reach the shrine, he said. The second batch of 40-50 pilgrims, including two foreign nationals, is likely to arrive at Kedarnath soon, Chauhan said. Free fooding and lodging arrangements have been made for pilgrims by the temple committee, he said, adding that if the number of pilgrims increases additional community kitchens will be set up to meet the requirements. Jain Foundation Trust International Non-Violence Day Invoking the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi on 'International Day of Non-Violence', UN chief Ban Ki-moon asked nations to resort to peaceful dialogue for settling disputes and to end violence, in- cluding that meted out towards women. Commemorating the day, celebrated at the UN on Gandhi's birth anniversary on October 2, Ban said Gandhi's legacy of non-violence still resonates and he showed the power of peacefully opposing oppression, injustice and hatred. The example of Gandhi, "a global giant for justice, respect for diversity and fundamental human rights" has inspired many other history-makers such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, The UN Chief said the message of each of these indi- viduals was to champion human dignity and reject intolerance. "Non- violence does not mean non-action. It takes courage to stand up to those who use violence to enforce their will or beliefs," Ban said at the ceremony hosted by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN. "It requires resolve to face down injustice, discrimination and brutality. It takes strength to move from conflict to peaceful nego- tiation." Noting that some of history's greatest leaders "rejected the battleground for the negotiating table," Ban said durable peace can- not be won through force of arms. "That is why I have insisted throughout the war in Syria that all concerned must work for a political solution. Violence can be contagious, but so can peaceful dialogue. "The United Nations stands for the peaceful resolution of disputes and the end to all forms of violence, whether state-spon- sored or embedded in culture and practice. This includes the sys- temic violence and intimidation that women and girls endure in all regions," Ban added. .Underlining the United Nations' focus on ending poverty in a generation, Ban quoted Gandhi and said "pov- erty is inherently violent to the needs and aspirations of the worlds most vulnerable people." He urged nations to "draw strength from the courage of individuals like Mahatma Gandhi." "Non-violence needs leaders across nations and in communities and homes.And it needs to be backed by an army of brave people prepared to de- mand peace, freedom and fairness. On the occasion, President of the 68th UN General Assembly Am- bassador JohnAshe was presented with a life size portrait of Gandhi by renowned artist RD Pareek, who had flown in from Mumbai to present his painting. Dr Saxena is a corporate professional, activist, naturopath, wellness counsellor, magician, painter, thinker, writer, film director and also an actor. He graduated with a BSc (Physics) and MA (Modern History) from Allahabad University. Later he got a PhD in Naturopathy from USA. His professional life commenced with working for Bank of India from 1981 to 1995 in UP. Thereafter, he joined Reliance Indus- tries Limited in 1995. Currently he works for them as a Senior Vice President (CorporateAffairs) at Nariman Point, Mumbai. His father Justice Krishna Narayan retired as a High Court judge from Allahabad. His mother Shanta is a housewife, while wife Shubha is a teacher. His son Prakhar has studied software engi- neering in USA and works there, while daughter Priyanshi works with an art gallery in Mumbai. Dr Saxena is the Chairperson of a Non-Govern- ment Organisation (NGO) called ‘Salvation Of Op- pressed Eunuchs (SOOE)’, working for the cause of eunuchs and assisting them to integrate into main- stream society. While eunuchs are a ubiquitous lot in India, the sad truth is that hardly anyone has made an effort to look behind the mask; unearth the truth that lies behind their smiling faces that hide tearful eyes, bereft of hope. Dr Saxena was struck by their plight and decided to do something concrete for a change, rather than merely talk about it. In order to gain first-hand knowledge about eunuchs and experience their lives and difficulties, he forsook the comforts of his home and spent close to a month living with them in their shanties. He travelled with them on their daily trips and attended their social an- nual gatherings at Ajmer, Mehsana, New Delhi, Kadappa etc. and slowly gleaned information from them. The result was a 540-page book, ‘Life Of A Eunuch’, an educational, informational and well-docu- mented study on the lives of eunuchs in India. The salient features of the book are: 1. Traces the role played by eunuchs through his- Ahumanitarianwithacause tory in India and abroad, their changing status and gen- eral downfall to their current levels. 2. Provides the reasons behind the disowning by society of these less privileged humans, forced into leading a shadowy existence. 3. Typical distinguishing characteristics of Indian eunuchs, their peculiar lifestyle and problems, living with gurus, means of income, existence in bondage and sla- very, prostitution, crime, trade of eunuchs, private gath- erings, ceremonies and rituals, social and government recognition of their status. 4. Medical reasons for their condition, causes and supporting factors. 5. Issues of ambiguous genitalia, sex change sur- geries, urethra, castration etc. in text, sketch and photo representations, means of redressal, such as Gender Reassignment Surgery (GRS). 6. Anecdotes and true-life stories, outlining the horrendous and insurmountable problems faced by them. 7. Never before published authentic photographs of private parts, in an effort to understand their condi- tion and dispel the myths surrounding them. Firmly believing in the old adage, ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’, Dr Saxena also decided to take the visual route. He produced and directed a short, 55- minute documentary, ‘Aur Neha Nahi Bik Payee’, pre- sented as a dramatization of events in the true life story of a hijra. It is a hard hitting commentary on the lives of eunuchs in India. The salient features of the documentary are: 1. The lead roles, including that of the pro- tagonist, are played by real eunuchs, not actors, which is a first in the in- dustry. 2. Filmed on loca- tion at the home of eu- nuch guru, Saira Banu Sheikh at Saira Com- pound, Chandansar Road, Virar (E) 401303. 3. It provides a glimpse of the reasons behind the disowning by society of these less privileged humans. 4. The reasons for how and why they are forced into leading a shadowy existence, bordering on the murky fringes of criminality and the various aspects of their lives. 5. What goes on behind the closed doors of their homes, how they are treated like slaves and face con- stant abuse and torture by gurus. 6. How they are bought and sold like cattle, with no shred of decency or self-respect afforded to them. Not wanting to rest on his laurels, he was instru- mental in the NGO (SOOE) filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) no. 01/2012 in the High Court Bombay for ensur- ing that all rights granted to a common citizen of India are also granted to eunuchs. In particular, Dr Saxena has asked for the following relief in the PIL: 1. Abolition of the condition of bonded labour that eunuchs are forced to lead. 2. Legalisation and provision of low-cost medical assistance for undergoing ‘nirvana’, a surgical proce- dure that is the very essence of the life of a eunuch. 3. Treatment of derogatory remarks like ‘hijra’, ‘chhakka’ etc. in respect of eunuchs on par with those against notified sections of society, such as scheduled castes and tribes and recently, people of North East origin. 4. Issuance of Voter’s ID card in the absence of ID and address proof, based on suitable affidavits and supporting documents. Dr Saxena has also donned the mantle of a counsel and argued the case in the Hon’ble High Court. In addition, he has petitioned and visited relevant government ministries, such as the Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and others on numerous occasions in order to resolve the vexed issues. The result of his ar- guments and efforts was that eunuch affairs, which were heretofore not dealt with or assigned to any min- istry, were finally assigned to the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, who became responsible for resolving the problems faced by the community. The case is in the process of being heard in the Court and Dr Saxena is highly optimistic about being able to pro- cure justice for eunuchs. Dr. Saxena’s dogged perse- verance has succeeded in the government issuing Voter’s ID cards to eunuchs in the absence of identifi- cation and address proof. The Election Commission of India through a circular dated 8th August 2012 has di- rected that a eunuch can obtain her Voter Enrolment and Voter ID card by just providing her guru’s name and address. A proponent of easily available natural remedies, Dr Saxena believes that the root cause of all medical problems is pollution and parasites, which affect dif- ferent organs of the body. Most of us today suffer from chronic ailments such as hypertension, kidney and gall bladder stones, allergies of all sorts, excess body fat, skin, dental and other problems of all sorts, which not only degrade the quality of our lives to a great extent but also result in our spending a substantial amount of time and money on fruit- lessly trying to cure them. While conventional medicine is suc- cessful at treating the symp- toms, which manifest them- selves as the conditions that we suffer from, it does not address the root cause of the problem and hence, as soon as the treat- ment of symptoms is termi- nated, the problematic condition reverts to the origi- nal. Dr Saxena wanted to not merely treat the symp- toms of illnesses but also cure them, which resulted in his doing a lot of research into therapies which ad- dressed the root cause of the illnesses and cured that. His studies led him to get a PhD in Naturopathy from USA and writing a book, ‘Cure Yourself’, which de- scribes his cleansing therapy for the treatment of kid- ney, liver, parasites and joint ailments. As his research in cleansing therapy has progressed over the days, he has also added to the cleanses mentioned in the book and now includethyroid, intes- tine, mouth, eye, nose, brain, pancreas, breast, lung, uterus, heart etc. His numerous ar- ticles on these and associated topics have appeared in vari- ous leading magazines and newspapers of the country. His talks have been broadcast on many radio and TV channels. Many patients across the globe have benefitted from the therapy. With a focus on holistic healing and treatment of ail- ments, Dr Saxena has also delved into the occult in his search for answers to various problems. Led by his be- lief that illnesses have psychosomatic as well as physi- ological causes, he studied and obtained a Master’s de- gree in Reiki healing. This was rounded off by his re- search into Past Life Regression (PLR), which is done through hypnosis of subjects. He has done numerous Reiki healings and PLRs so far and almost all of his ‘patients’ have reported a considerable improvement in their situation after the regressions. Amongst the condi- tions that have seen marked improvement after the use of Reiki healing and PLR are chronic pains and fears, rela- tionship problems etc. Working for the television and films is his hobby. He has performed in a variety of roles, in numerous TV serials and movies. He enjoys the company of children and performs magic shows for them at birthday parties and schools/ colleges, as also for ma- ture audiences, providing entertainment and relief from their monotonous routine. He also performs as Santa Claus at 3-4 Christmas parties for children every year. Believing that the improved condition by way of health or otherwise of those he has helped is the best reward, Dr Saxena does not charge any fees for consultation on health matters or his hobbies listed above. His numerous ‘patients’ spread all over the globe are in constant touch with him, sometimes to consult him for a condition and at other times merely to talk to him about general affairs. Dr Saxena loves to hear from them and update them on his continuing research into cleansing therapy and other issues. Dr Saxena is also fond of travelling. We tend to se- clude ourselves into communities based on race, creed, culture and countries. Our distrust and hatred of each other are rooted in our ignorance about others and ap- preciation of their qualities, which quite frequently, are similar to our own. In order to broaden his knowledge of different places and cultures, Dr Saxena has travelled to all the continents and all major cities of the world includ- ing places like Pakistan, Mt. Kailash, Antarctica etc. Writing is a favourite hobby and his first book was ‘Everything Men KnowAbout Women’, a humorous look at the man-woman relationship. It is a concept that has been greatly appreciated by the media and all others. ‘Cure Yourself’ was his second book, while ‘Life Of A Eunuch’ was his third. His fourth book, ‘Mysteries of Life’ will be released by December 2014. For the convenience of devotees, arrangements of fooding and lodging have been made at Bhimbali and Lenchauni between Gaurikund and Kedarnath, he said. The devotees have to traverse a distance of 17 km on foot from Munaktya to Kedarnath to reach the shrine, he said. The second batch of 40-50 pilgrims, including two foreign nationals, is likely to arrive at Kedarnath soon, Chauhan said. Jain Foundation Trust International Non-Violence Day Invoking the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi on 'International Day of Non-Violence', UN chief Ban Ki-moon asked nations to resort to peaceful dialogue for settling disputes and to end violence, in- cluding that meted out towards women. Commemorating the day, celebrated at the UN on Gandhi's birth anniversary on October 2, Ban said Gandhi's legacy of non-violence still resonates and he showed the power of peacefully opposing oppression, injustice and hatred. The example of Gandhi, "a global giant for justice, respect for diversity and fundamental human rights" has inspired many other history-makers such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, The UN Chief said the message of each of these indi- viduals was to champion human dignity and reject intolerance. "Non- violence does not mean non-action. It takes courage to stand up to those who use violence to enforce their will or beliefs," Ban said at the ceremony hosted by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN. "It requires resolve to face down injustice, discrimination and brutality. It takes strength to move from conflict to peaceful nego- tiation." Noting that some of history's greatest leaders "rejected the battleground for the negotiating table," Ban said durable peace can- not be won through force of arms. "That is why I have insisted throughout the war in Syria that all concerned must work for a political solution. Violence can be contagious, but so can peaceful dialogue. "The United Nations stands for the peaceful resolution of disputes and the end to all forms of violence, whether state-spon- sored or embedded in culture and practice. This includes the sys- temic violence and intimidation that women and girls endure in all regions," Ban added. .Underlining the United Nations' focus on ending poverty in a generation, Ban quoted Gandhi and said "pov- erty is inherently violent to the needs and aspirations of the worlds most vulnerable people." He urged nations to "draw strength from the courage of individuals like Mahatma Gandhi." Dr Saxena is a corporate professional, activist, naturopath, wellness counsellor, magician, painter, thinker, writer, film director and also an actor. He graduated with a BSc (Physics) and MA (Modern History) from Allahabad University. Later he got a PhD in Naturopathy from USA. His professional life commenced with working for Bank of India from 1981 to 1995 in UP. Thereafter, he joined Reliance Indus- tries Limited in 1995. Currently he works for them as a Senior Vice President (CorporateAffairs) at Nariman Point, Mumbai. His father Justice Krishna Narayan retired as a High Court judge from Allahabad. His mother Shanta is a housewife, while wife Shubha is a teacher. His son Prakhar has studied software engi- neering in USA and works there, while daughter Priyanshi works with an art gallery in Mumbai. Dr Saxena is the Chairperson of a Non-Govern- ment Organisation (NGO) called ‘Salvation Of Op- pressed Eunuchs (SOOE)’, working for the cause of eunuchs and assisting them to integrate into main- stream society. While eunuchs are a ubiquitous lot in India, the sad truth is that hardly anyone has made an effort to look behind the mask; unearth the truth that lies behind their smiling faces that hide tearful eyes, bereft of hope. Dr Saxena was struck by their plight and decided to do something concrete for a change, rather than merely talk about it. In order to gain first-hand knowledge about eunuchs and experience their lives and difficulties, he forsook the comforts of his home and spent close to a month living with them in their shanties. He travelled with them on their daily trips and attended their social an- nual gatherings at Ajmer, Mehsana, New Delhi, Kadappa etc. and slowly gleaned information from them. The result was a 540-page book, ‘Life Of A Eunuch’, an educational, informational and well-docu- mented study on the lives of eunuchs in India. The salient features of the book are: 1. Traces the role played by eunuchs through his- Ahumanitarianwithacause tory in India and abroad, their changing status and gen- eral downfall to their current levels. 2. Provides the reasons behind the disowning by society of these less privileged humans, forced into leading a shadowy existence. 3. Typical distinguishing characteristics of Indian eunuchs, their peculiar lifestyle and problems, living with gurus, means of income, existence in bondage and sla- very, prostitution, crime, trade of eunuchs, private gath- erings, ceremonies and rituals, social and government recognition of their status. 4. Medical reasons for their condition, causes and supporting factors. 5. Issues of ambiguous genitalia, sex change sur- geries, urethra, castration etc. in text, sketch and photo representations, means of redressal, such as Gender Reassignment Surgery (GRS). 6. Anecdotes and true-life stories, outlining the horrendous and insurmountable problems faced by them. 7. Never before published authentic photographs of private parts, in an effort to understand their condi- tion and dispel the myths surrounding them. Firmly believing in the old adage, ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’, Dr Saxena also decided to take the visual route. He produced and directed a short, 55- minute documentary, ‘Aur Neha Nahi Bik Payee’, pre- sented as a dramatization of events in the true life story of a hijra. It is a hard hitting commentary on the lives of eunuchs in India. The salient features of the documentary are: 1. The lead roles, including that of the pro- tagonist, are played by real eunuchs, not actors, which is a first in the in- dustry. 2. Filmed on loca- tion at the home of eu- nuch guru, Saira Banu Sheikh at Saira Com- pound, Chandansar Road, Virar (E) 401303. 3. It provides a glimpse of the reasons behind the disowning by society of these less privileged humans. 4. The reasons for how and why they are forced into leading a shadowy existence, bordering on the murky fringes of criminality and the various aspects of their lives. 5. What goes on behind the closed doors of their homes, how they are treated like slaves and face con- stant abuse and torture by gurus. 6. How they are bought and sold like cattle, with no shred of decency or self-respect afforded to them. Not wanting to rest on his laurels, he was instru- mental in the NGO (SOOE) filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) no. 01/2012 in the High Court Bombay for ensur- ing that all rights granted to a common citizen of India are also granted to eunuchs. In particular, Dr Saxena has asked for the following relief in the PIL: 1. Abolition of the condition of bonded labour that eunuchs are forced to lead. 2. Legalisation and provision of low-cost medical assistance for undergoing ‘nirvana’, a surgical proce- dure that is the very essence of the life of a eunuch. 3. Treatment of derogatory remarks like ‘hijra’, ‘chhakka’ etc. in respect of eunuchs on par with those against notified sections of society, such as scheduled castes and tribes and recently, people of North East origin. 4. Issuance of Voter’s ID card in the absence of ID and address proof, based on suitable affidavits and supporting documents. Dr Saxena has also donned the mantle of a counsel and argued the case in the Hon’ble High Court. In addition, he has petitioned and visited relevant government ministries, such as the Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and others on numerous occasions in order to resolve the vexed issues. The result of his ar- guments and efforts was that eunuch affairs, which were heretofore not dealt with or assigned to any min- istry, were finally assigned to the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, who became responsible for resolving the problems faced by the community. The case is in the process of being heard in the Court and Dr Saxena is highly optimistic about being able to pro- cure justice for eunuchs. Dr. Saxena’s dogged perse- verance has succeeded in the government issuing Voter’s ID cards to eunuchs in the absence of identifi- cation and address proof. The Election Commission of India through a circular dated 8th August 2012 has di- rected that a eunuch can obtain her Voter Enrolment and Voter ID card by just providing her guru’s name and address. A proponent of easily available natural remedies, Dr Saxena believes that the root cause of all medical problems is pollution and parasites, which affect dif- ferent organs of the body. Most of us today suffer from chronic ailments such as hypertension, kidney and gall bladder stones, allergies of all sorts, excess body fat, skin, dental and other problems of all sorts, which not only degrade the quality of our lives to a great extent but also result in our spending a substantial amount of time and money on fruit- lessly trying to cure them. While conventional medicine is suc- cessful at treating the symp- toms, which manifest them- selves as the conditions that we suffer from, it does not address the root cause of the problem and hence, as soon as the treat- ment of symptoms is termi- nated, the problematic condition reverts to the origi- nal. Dr Saxena wanted to not merely treat the symp- toms of illnesses but also cure them, which resulted in his doing a lot of research into therapies which ad- dressed the root cause of the illnesses and cured that. His studies led him to get a PhD in Naturopathy from USA and writing a book, ‘Cure Yourself’, which de- scribes his cleansing therapy for the treatment of kid- ney, liver, parasites and joint ailments. As his research in cleansing therapy has progressed over the days, he has also added to the cleanses mentioned in the book and now includethyroid, intes- tine, mouth, eye, nose, brain, pancreas, breast, lung, uterus, heart etc. His numerous ar- ticles on these and associated topics have appeared in vari- ous leading magazines and newspapers of the country. His talks have been broadcast on many radio and TV channels. Many patients across the globe have benefitted from the therapy. With a focus on holistic healing and treatment of ail- ments, Dr Saxena has also delved into the occult in his search for answers to various problems. Led by his be- lief that illnesses have psychosomatic as well as physi- ological causes, he studied and obtained a Master’s de- gree in Reiki healing. This was rounded off by his re- search into Past Life Regression (PLR), which is done through hypnosis of subjects. He has done numerous Reiki healings and PLRs so far and almost all of his ‘patients’ have reported a considerable improvement in their situation after the regressions. Amongst the condi- tions that have seen marked improvement after the use of Reiki healing and PLR are chronic pains and fears, rela- tionship problems etc. Working for the television and films is his hobby.
