3. Historical Places & Phrygian Valley
Primary cultural entities in
the city are the fairy
chimneys in İscehisar,
Seydiler regions, Phrygian
stone monuments, tombs,
Karahisar Castle and Ulu
Mosque (1272) are places
to visit in the city.

4. Historical Library (İmaret Külliyesi)
The Imaret Külliyesi in Afyon, with
a colored marble portal, is typical
of a 15th century Ottoman stone
building. Constructed in 1472,
with a medrese and baths, it is
also known as the Gedik Ahmet
Pasa Külliyesi after its founder
Mehmet.
There were alot of Manuscripts in
The İmaret Külliyesi. The
Manuscripts are protected by
National Library today.

heritage of the mankind, are
the most reliable resources
in scientific, artistic and
cultural research.
7. History of Public Library
Fatih’s grand vizier Mehmet Paşa donated 350
books to İmaret Külliye (complex of buildings).
Then Ahmet Paşa who was from Afyon donated
at about 400 books in 1473 and contribute the
foundation of the library.
The Library was moved to its new building in
1971. It’s used as a mosque and eating house for
the poor.

10. The Public library is supported finacially by The Ministry
of Culture and Tourism.
The staffs in The Public Library work 40 hours per week.
They have specific training for the job. They had
graduated from Documentation Department of the
Universities.
11. Working Halls
There are two halls for reading and working. Students can use
their computers. Internet connection is free and always ready
for users.
12. Biled Project in The Library
Biled project is for blind people. Four computers are
designed for it. One reading machine, one is designed as
a magnifying glass , four auditory screen reading
programme and four screen magnification programme
installed on computers.
13. Mobile Library
This mobile library has been serving since 2003. Mobile
library was opened for using for three days in a week in 17
villages in 2010
The mobile library has 1907 members. The most of the
members are students.
14. The Library of My School
There are fifty-four deaf
students in my school. My
school has a small library.
There is a reading club at our
school.
The reading club organizes
books and working of the
library.
There are many illustrated books
and visual materials in the
library.
15. Working Hours &Rules
Weekdays 08:00 – 16:00
all users (students, parents, teachers, and staff) can
borrow three books for a period of three weeks and
audiovisual materials (DVD, CD, etc.) for a period of 5
days.
Students in grades 3-5 may borrow library materials for
two weeks.
Students 1-2 may borrow library materials for one week.
Any user who loses or damages a borrowed book should
inform the library and should procure a replacement
copy or pay the value of the book.
16. Illustrated Books
Our students often make reading aloud in early years
of school.
We usually use the illiustrated books for our students.
Because they need to understand the relationship
between picture and text. These books are
interpreted easily by deaf children.
17. Staff
A teacher is responsible for the library. Two students
help him/her for organizing.
He/she helps students for book choosing.
Our teachers have special education for deaf
students.
They can use Turkish Sign Language.
18. Technical Services
Tecnical Staff is a teacher. The teacher has the
education about the school library via in-service
training.
He does the following.
Choose and provide books
Ordering, cataloguing and classification
Maintenance and repair of books
Extracting the outdated works
19. Choosing and Providing
There is a commission in our schools for book
choosing and providing.
The commission consist of teachers, students and
school council (a teacher, parents and headmaster).
The books are provided;
by book donating,
by Buying,
20. Cataloguing and classification
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules is used for
cataloguing.
Dewey decimal system is used for classification
The teacher makes the registration process.
21. Reading is important ! Because;
Firstly, children learns to read,
Later, Children reads to learn.
