2. DATE OF FOUNDATION

In 1539, the Santa Agueda scout ships and
Trinidad, sent by Hernán Cortés, the command of
Captain Francisco de Ulloa, arrived to Guaymas
Bay, the captain decided to give the name "port of
ports" because of the good impression that gave
conquistadors the place. They went ashore to take
possession on behalf of the King of Spain, giving
the name of "Bay of possession", to what is now the
Bay of Guaymas.

3. FIRST POPULATION

The first settlers, ancient tribe called the
Guaimas, Family of Seris, lived by fishing, wore
clothing made ​of feathers pelican. His neighbors to
the south, the Yaquis, Seris northwest, the northern
Pima. They traded in peace with other tribes, skins
of seabirds and salt, in exchange for less arid land
fruit.

4. BATTLE OF GUAYMAS

The July 13, 1854 is fought the Battle of
Guaymas, where about 400 soldiers of French
origin mostly from San Francisco, Calif., attacked
the Mexican army present in the area. Led by the
French count Raousset Gaston, who was defeated
by General Jose Maria Yanez and Colonel Ignacio
R. Alatorre, with the help of the civilian
population, which at that time was not more than
2,000 habitants. The Emperor Maximilian of
Hapsburg, was awarded the title of Knight of the
Order of Guadalupe Yañez General for his role in
the defense of Mexican territorial integrity.

5. THE CITY OF GUAYMAS

The July 13, 1859 is granted the title of city. During
the second half of the nineteenth century
enjoyed, of great economic and social
development, the population increased immigration
primarily from Europe
(Spain, France, England, Germany) and South
America. Fleet had the largest merchant vessels
Mexico. The Mexican Revolution (19101917), ruined most of the local fortunes, and some
of them emigrated to the United States of America.

6. FOOD

Its exquisite dishes based on seafood and
steaks, is very common to use
shrimp, oysters, fish and seafood. A really
delicious and typical dish of the region is the
snapper tossed, as it is cooked on the grill while
it is wrapped in banana leaves and seasoned
with spices.

7. CURIOSITIES




In Guaymas in 1877 played the first baseball game in
Mexico.
First Naval Battle in Mexico occurred in the city of
Guaymas, Sonora on May 30, 1913.
The December 10, 1929. - With Guaymas Plan José
Vasconcelos calls rebellion by electoral fraud.
Julian Martinez Soros lived for many years in
Guaymas. He created sculptures in
Mexicali, Hermosillo, Guaymas, San
Francisco, Italy, Mexico, DF, and Spain. It was the
sculptor of the monument to the fisherman and the
square of the Three Presidents.

8. TOURISM




Guaymas offers many tourist attractions such as:
Golf, snorkeling, fishing, horseback riding, ecotourism
tours, cycling, diving and kayaking
The beach resort area, is located to the northwest of the
port, with the region of the Bay of San Carlos (Mexico)
and its surroundings and to a lesser extent
Bacochibampo Bay and Miramar.
Has some architectural attractions such as the Temple of
the Sacred Heart, Church of San Fernando (nineteenth
century), Plaza of the Three Presidents, Plaza de
Armas, the old Bank of Sonora, the Monument to
fisherman, Monument to Benito Juarez, the Municipal
, among others.
Another tourist attraction is Guaymas Sonora
Dolphinarium, 6 which offers dolphin therapy services.
