INTRODUCTION

When a plumber goes into a kitchen to do a job he carries his “toolkit” with him only to use the one
he needs not all of them otherwise the job cannot be done effectively and plus wastes a lot of time.
Refer back to this guide only when you need to e.g. when you want to conduct market research on a
particular niche, go to the niche research section and pick out tools you think will be useful.

I hope you will find this very useful as you proceed into your internet marketing endeavours.
Regardless of what market you’re in or what you do it is obvious that in order to succeed in any field
of life one needs to have the right tools handy.

This guide will give you everything you need for an online business to succeed, from the most basic
to the more advanced. Including websites tools, promotional tools on how to promote your website
and the most basic of basic of tools and software that you would need to start and run your online
business. Just because these tools are free doesn’t mean that they are not good as the paid ones as
a lot are if not even better than a lot of the paid services out there.

You will notice that I have starred some of the tools that I find very useful and that I think you will
find very useful as well but that does not go to say that the ones not starred are not good, as they
are still great tools.

DEFINITIONS

Pinging – This is a form of promoting your website, kind of like a Facebook poke. Pinging lets other
websites on the web know there is a new guy in town.

Backlinks – These are basically backdoors to your websites for example a YouTube video on
Facebook can be referred to as a backlink. Backlinking is the process of putting your links on as many
websites as possible to get people to click on them, increasing you’re the amount of visitors to your
website.

Plug-ins - are software that ad on to the functionality of for example a web browser. Kind of like the
applications on you smart phone or android phone, a plug-in the your web browsers equivalent of
that.

Domain Name – This is the name and address of your website. Dot com, dot biz, dot edu, dot gov;
these represent what kind of website your site is. For example dot com (com) means commercial,
dot gov would mean government, dot edu is education and biz is business site. Hope u get the drift
now.

SEO – Is an acronym which stands for Search Engine Optimization. There are two types of SEO, on-
page (which consists of 25% of SEO) and off-page SEO (which is 75% of SEO). This is an internet
marketing technique that is used to increase a websites’ of Webpages’ rank/position in the search
engines.

Squeeze/Landing Page – This is a webpage that has an opt-in form that allows your customers to
give you their contact details in exchange for a product or service you are offering them. Once they
do this they then become part of your list which is basically a database or list of customers.

Sitemap XML – XML stands for Extensible mark-up language which is similar to HTML (hyper Text
Mark-up Language) but made to carry and not store/display data, it focuses on what data is while
HTML focuses on how data appears.

RSS – Stands for Really Simple Syndicate or Rich Site Summary. This is a web tool that notifies
visitors and search engines whenever your webpage is updated.
