COURSE PROGRAM AND ATTENDANCE
A study period is defined as a Term
1. Course progress
International students are required to maintain a satisfactory academic progress. To
maintain your progress you are required to pass at least 50% of your scheduled
subjects in any study period.
If a student fails to maintain satisfactory academic progress in a study period, UNI’S
intervention strategy will be initiated (refer to intervention policy on the UNI website).
The student will be notified on the risk of not maintaining satisfactory academic
progress (First warning letter of unsatisfactory course progress) and the continuing risk
of the UNI needing to issue an intention to report to DIAC for unsatisfactory progress if
there is no improvement.
If the student is identified as not making satisfactory course progress in second
consecutive compulsory study period, the student will be contacted by UNI to notify
the DIAC for unsatisfactory progress.
Student who fails to meet this requirement will be in breach of their visa, and will be
advised that they have 20 working days in which to access the complaints and appeals
process.
Students may be eligible to be reassessed and a reassessment fee will apply in such
cases. Please speak to your trainer or course coordinator for more information.
2. Attendance
UNI is committed to maintaining the highest standards in student academic

minimum of 80% of the contact hours of their scheduled units of study. If student
failing to attend at least 80% of practical classes or not meeting timeframes required
for assessable units or tasks, should be raised with UNI Director.
a. Recording Attendance
If a student is absent from the institute because he/she is sick, they should see
their doctor and obtain a medical certificate letter. The student may have this
copied.
It is the student’s responsibility to come to class every day and to maintain a
satisfactory attendance.

INTERVENTION STRATEGY
UNI is committed to the delivery of high quality academic outcomes for students
through the regular monitoring and assessment of student progress and through the
provision of high quality support.
Standard 10 of the National Code 2007, Monitoring Course Progress requires registered
providers to have a documented intervention strategy. The Intervention Strategy
procedures set out the process for identifying and assisting students ‘at risk’ of not
making satisfactory course progress as per our Student Progress policy and procedure.
The strategy specifies procedures for contacting and counselling identified students and
sets out options available to assist students to achieve satisfactory course progress.
At a minimum the intervention strategy must be activated where the student has failed
or deemed not yet competent in 50% or more the course or units studied in any study
period. Refer to Student Progress Policy and Procedure.

to UNI from another institution.
1. Students transferring in under the first six months of study
Overseas students are restricted under the National Code 2007 Standard 7 from

time after the student has commenced studying.
International students are only able to suspend their course for a period of less than
six months once they have commenced studying. Periods of suspension of longer than
six months will result in the cancellation of the student’s visa and will, therefore,
require the student to apply for their visa to be reinstated.
Once the student has commenced the course, UNI will only grant a suspension of
study for compassionate and compelling circumstances.
The period of suspension will not be included in attendance calculations for UNI
International students who suspend their studies for more than 28 days are
required by DIAC to return to their home country unless special circumstances
exist (e.g. the student is medically unfit to travel)
3. Exclusion from class

ACHIEVEMENT OF A QUALIFICATION
UNI issues a number of formal qualifications to students who have completed their
course of studies at the institute. For students who pass the course, they must be
graded as “competent” for each subject in the relevant course. This means they must
gain a PASS grade in all subjects before a qualification document will be issued.
CLASS TIMES/TIMETABLE
Each tem you will be issued with a class timetable and study programme.
A list of subjects will be posted on UNI website.
Please try to be on time for your class as lateness inconveniences fellow students and
staff, and reduces your attendance percentage which may affect your visa. (Please see
the Course progress and Attendance Policy)
1. Class rolls
Each class you attend has a separate class roll. The roll is marked by the class trainer
each day as a record of your attendance.
2. Enrolling for next term
Each term you are expected to complete the enrolment process in order to get your
timetable for the term. Enrolment for continuing student is available both online and
face-to-face.
