The manufacturing sector experienced significant changes from 2000 to 2010. Output grew slowly for most of the decade before declining sharply during the Great Recession. While some traditional manufacturing industries continued to lose jobs, emerging industries in computers, electronics, and transportation added jobs and helped offset overall losses.
