It is when a work such as this CD­Rom comes together, that I am reminded of the
supportive nature of our profession. The willingness of firms to contribute project

Europe.
Interviews, tours, and video demonstrations provide an additional benefit to students
using this CD­Rom. A heartfelt thank you to those who participated in these active
components of the CD­Rom, including Thomas Laging, FAIA, Robin Reigi, Gary
Buxbaum, Stephanie Odegard, Sam Paxhia, Cristina Rosadia, Kate Williamson, Suzette
Subance, and Erin McCawley.
When professional practitioners, educators, students, and the trades combine forces to
contribute to an educational tool, work towards the common goal of educating future
interior design professionals, we forge a stronger future for interior design.
Each of the components within this CD­Rom is integrated through the creative digital
mastery afforded by Kevin Tedore. His design ability, attention to detail, flexibility, and
fluency with all aspects of the project are unparalleled. I have truly valued his
contributions and work.
A note of appreciation to those working directly on creating images, including Maria
Garcia, Lisa Mettenbrink, Alexander Jack, Jennifer Jarosik, Stacey Peters, and Jessica
Henke for her research and help in collecting the information and images included in the
timelines.
In previous digital textbooks I have authored, the CD­Rom, while accompanied by a print
workbook, was intended as a stand­alone product. This CD­Rom differs in that it
supports the superb textbook authored by Susan Slotkis. The textbook offers an
admirably coherent and comprehensive introduction to interior design. It was my honor
to contribute to students’ understanding by supplementing the textbook and reinforcing
salient points. Ms. Slotkis’s input to the CD­Rom was invaluable. Students at FIT are
fortunate to have an educator of her caliber at their institution.

2. The continual encouragement and professionalism from my friends at Fairchild Books is
too often taken for granted. I appreciate the rigorous, meticulous, yet good­natured
efforts of Amy Zarkos and Sylvia Weber, editors of the work. Olga Kontzias proves time
and again her outstanding support of interior design education. Each of these three
remarkable women managed to keep the vision of the power of the overall digital work,
while weaving the intricate threads tying the CD­Rom to the textbook. I also extend a
thank you to Jaclyn Bergeron for her assistance in organizing the photo permissions.
On a personal note, the time and dedication to a project such as this is immense, and I
would be remiss not to note the patience, understanding, and exceptional support of my
family. They are a continual source of inspiration and motivation.
The interior design program at the University of Nebraska­Lincoln, housed in the College
of Architecture, enjoys a culture of collaboration and design excellence. Encouragement
within and from this arena has been invaluable and ranging from students, faculty, staff,
and administrators.
