WARM UP
 A warm up includes some series of exercises
you do before physical activity.
 For example, before playing an intense sport
you can run slowly to warm your muscles
and your heart. Warm ups must prepare the
muscles for the activity.
 Warm ups are specific to the sport or activity
you practice.
Benefits of Warm ups
 Protection against injuries
 Better performance
 Increase your body temperature.
 Your joints move more efficiently
 Oxygen in blood travels faster
 Your muscles extend more and are more
elastic
 You react faster.
PARTS OF WARM UP
 Small Run
 Movements of your joints
 Stretching of the main muscles
PHYSICAL FITNESS
Being fit is a way of saying
that a person eats well,
practises physical activity
and has a healthy weight.
When you are fit, your body
works well and feels good
(you sleep well, don't feel
tired...). You can be fit only if
you have a good level of
general fitness.

Cardiovascular Endurance
Endurance is important to this distance
runner
PULSE RATE
 On the side of your neck
 On the inside of the wrist
 At the side of the
forehead
Cardiovascular endurance is the ability of the heart
and lungs to supply the working muscles oxygen to carry
on with physical movement.
Strenght
Strength is the maximum force that a muscle
or group of muscles can develop. There are
different types of strength (static, dynamic
and explosive). Most activities need a
combination of the different types of strength.
Flexibility
Flexibility is the range
of movement around a
joint. The main joints
involved in flexibility
are:
– Shoulders and arms
– Back
– Hips
– Legs
Speed or Velocity
Speed is the ability to
perform a movement or
cover a distance in a
short period of time.
This baseball player needs
speed to hit the ball quickly
Co-ordination, Agility, Balance
 Co-ordination is the ability to use two or more body parts together.
 Agility is a combination of flexibility and speed and the ability to
change the position of the body quickly. Goalkeepers and gymnasts
are good examples of people who have this ability.
 Balance is the ability to keep upright when you are moving or standing
still. It is essential for gymnasts to be able to maintain total balance.

Co-ordination, Agility, Balance  Co-ordination is the ability to use two or more body parts together.  Agility is a combination of flexibility and speed and the ability to change the position of the body quickly. Goalkeepers and gymnasts are good examples of people who have this ability.  Balance is the ability to keep upright when you are moving or standing still. It is essential for gymnasts to be able to maintain total balance.
