Chemistry in our world By Logan Schultz My hand is matter
Table of Contents Matter Not matter Pure substance Element Compounds Mixtures Heterogeneous Mixtures Homogenous Mixtures Mass Volume Suspension Emulsion Mechanical Mixture Reversible change Non reversible change Physical and Chemical change
Matter Any thing that has mass and volume but it has to have both of them This basket ball has mass and volume
Not matter Any thing that doesn’t have mass and volume it can have one of those or none light is one of the few substances that is not matter
Pure substance A substance only made of one substance Water is a pure substance
Element A class of substances that cannot be separated into a simpler substances by using chemical means
Compounds a pure substance made of two or more elements whose composition is constant This faucet has a metal plating on It so it not an element
Mixtures two or more substances that are not combined and that exist in no fixed proportion to each other. Gatorade is a mixture
Heterogeneous Mixtures You can see the different substances in the mixture
Homogenous Mixtures A mixture that u cant see the different parts or substances in it
Mass The weight of something or how much gravity pulls on the object This flash drive has little mass
Volume The amount an object can hold The formula for volume is length times height times width
Suspension A fluid where particles hang in the air
Emulsion A mixture where the particles are un dissolved the sugar is un dissolved in the liquid
Mechanical Mixture a mixture that its parts can be separated by using mechanical means This is copper plated and can be broken down
Reversible change A change that can be changed back The water is evaporated at the top
Non reversible change Impossible change this cant be fixed even with glue cause it is a substance that glue wont stick to
Physical and Chemical change Changes in either by physical means or chemical means Examples of Chemical change are Burning a piece of paper and freezing water Examples of Physical change are ripping a piece of paper and breaking a pencil
