Cain & Abel
09
KNOWING
- What does Holy means?
- Could Man and God abide together
in their new state?
- Did they come out of the Garden naked?
- What does it mean to come out dressed?
- Is not clothing a sign of protection
against the elements?
- What happened when they came out?
Genesis 4:1-2
Genesis 4:1-2
Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived
and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man
from the LORD.” Then she bore again, this time
his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of
sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
- Is the firstborn
important to God?
- Are children born
by the will of God?
- Were Cain and Abel
born outside the
garden?
- Were they also separated from God?
- Why children inherit the sin of the parents?
- Why Adam didn’t know Eve before?
- Are Cain and Abel their first children?
- How long Adam
and Eve stayed
in the garden?
- Does knowing Eve
mean intimacy?
Genesis 4:3-5
Genesis 4:3-5
And in the process of time it came to pass that
Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the
ground to the LORD. Abel also brought of the
firstborn of his flock and of their fat.
Genesis 4:3-5
And the LORD respected Abel and his offering,
but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And
Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
- Why do they bring an offering to God?
- Who taught them? - Adam and Eve?
- How do we know God if we are born
separated from Him?
- What does it mean in
the process of time?
- How old were they?
- Do our parents play an important role
in teaching us?
- Were our parents properly taught?
- What are the offerings of Cain and Abel?
- Why Abel offering is accepted and Cain’s rejected?
- Is Abel better than his brother? - Is he good?
- What is God please with? - Was it the animal? or
- Was it the attitude with which he offered
the sacrifice?
Hebrews 11:4
Hebrews 11:4
By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent
sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained
witness that he was righteous, God testifying of
his gifts; and through it he being dead still
speaks.
- What is faith? - How do we produce faith?
- How did Abel apply faith in his offering?
- What did He believe? - What is a sacrifice?
- How was the animal he offers?
- Was the animal dead or alive?
- Did he understand what his parents taught him?
- What did Abel believe in
when he sacrificed the lamb?
- Why is Abel righteous?
- Is it by following God’s example?
- Were Cain and Abel aware of their sin?
- What guide us to repentance?
Romans 2:4
Romans 2:4
Or do you despise the riches of His goodness,
forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that
the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
- Were not Cain and Abel both sinners?
- Did they inherit the knowledge of good and evil?
- What did they choose to do?
- What was Cain’s attitude?
Genesis 4:6-7
Genesis 4:6-7
So the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry?
And why has your countenance fallen? If you do
well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not
do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for
you, but you should rule over it.”
- What is God teaching Cain?
- Was he able to dominate his feelings?
- Did Cain correct the wrongdoing?
- What did he choose to do?
Genesis 4:8
Genesis 4:8
Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it
came to pass, when they were in the field, that
Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed
him.
- Was God so hard on Cain that induces
Cain to kill his brother?
- Why did God allow Cain to kill his brother?
- Why is Cain acting in such a way?
1 John 3:12
1 John 3:12
not as Cain who was of the wicked one and
murdered his brother. And why did he murder
him? Because his works were evil and his
brother’s righteous.
- Who did Cain belong to?
- How were his acts?
- Is there anyone good?
- What is the difference
between good and
righteous acts?
- What happened then?
Genesis 4:9
Genesis 4:9
Then the LORD said to Cain,
“Where is Abel your brother?”
He said,
“I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
- Didn’t God know where Abel was?
- Why did he ask Cain?
- What does God want from him?
- Why is God looking for Cain?
- Who takes the initiative?
- What did Cain answer?
- Why did he lie?
- Is Cain afraid?
- What is God’s response?
Genesis 4:10-12
Genesis 4:10-12
And He said, “What have you done? The voice of
your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the
ground. So now you are cursed from the earth,
which has opened its mouth to receive your
brother’s blood from your hand. When you till
the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to
you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on
the earth.”
- Who did God curse?
- Was it Cain or the earth?
- Was God just
in dealing with Cain?
- What did Cain deserve?
- Did God kill him?
- What is Cain’s reaction?
- Did he repent?
Genesis 4:13-14
Genesis 4:13-14
And Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is
greater than I can bear! Surely You have driven
me out this day from the face of the ground; I
shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a
fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will
happen that anyone who finds me will kill me.”
- Who was he afraid of?
- Were there other people beside his
parents that could harm him?
- Why is Cain defying God?
- Did God listen to him?
Genesis 4:15
Genesis 4:15
And the LORD said to him, “Therefore, whoever
kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him
sevenfold.” And the LORD set a mark on Cain,
lest anyone finding him should kill him.
- Why is God protecting
Cain?
- Was not God desire
for Cain to repent?
- Is God establishing a
precedent of His
Grace through Cain?
Hosea 14:4
Hosea 14:4
I will heal their waywardness
and love them freely,
for my anger has turned away from them.
WHAT DID WE LEARN TODAY?
- God loves man and provides for his needs.
- Our attitude is very important when we make
an offering to God.
- God is pleased with our faith in Him and when we imitate Him.
- God is good regardless of our sin and desires that we
all come to repentance.
- We have power over our feelings.
- Sin is a personal decision.
- There is difference between good and just.
