24. Dear Parents and Guardians,
As you may have heard, Arkansas is a leading state in the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College
and Careers (PARCC). As a member state, Arkansas educators are helping to develop next-generation, computer-
based tests in math, reading, and writing that will measure students’ knowledge and skills, such as their ability
to think critically, solve problems and use information from what they read to write well-developed essays.
Our school will conduct a field test this spring. Two 8th grade classrooms and two 7th grade classrooms will be
participating. This is a chance to make sure the tablets, laptops and desktop computers work well with the test.
Students will not get scores back based on the results, but they will get a chance to engage in sample math or
English problems and writing exercises. By taking part in the field test, our teachers and students will play an
important role in developing Arkansas’s future tests.
Our teachers and principals are looking forward to this opportunity to become more familiar with the
exams, which align to Arkansas’s educational standards.
Thank you for all you do on behalf of your children. Please contact your child’s teacher or school principal if you
have any questions.
Sincerely,
Lonnie Mitchell
25. Please ask your child for the informational
hand out regarding new immunizations sent
home today. ALL students, grades 6 - 8, must
have a Tdap vaccine and 2 Varicella vaccines.
In addition, ALL 7th graders must have a
Meningococcal vaccine. These are both due
upon entry into the 2014 - 2015 school year.
If your child does not make it home with the
letter, the information will be posted on our
website @www.vbsd.us/nrms. If you have any
questions at all, please do not hesitate to
call.
26. National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring a Spring
canned food drive. The food drive will run from April 14 –

society member pick your cans up each day. There will be
a class competition with the winning class from each grade
receiving a donut and juice celebration.
National Junior Honor Society members are required to
bring at least one non-perishable item for the food
drive. Please bring your item to Mrs. McGhee or Ms.
Robinson’s room so you can get credit; then, take your
