performance as a business priority. It undertook a project to standardise reporting and management

EMISSIONS logic solution to cover dozens of sites in Europe and the Americas.
EMISSIONS logic is a comprehensive emissions management solution that has enabled Ford to
track greenhouse gas emissions and compliance against obligations as well as manage emissions
allowances. It can also be used to evaluate strategies and projects for emissions reduction and
generate internal and external reports.
As a result, Ford has been able to achieve a consistent approach to managing emissions across
multiple manufacturing facilities, regulatory regimes and emissions calculation methodologies. A
quickly realised benefit has been time savings related to tracking and managing large quantities of
data to satisfy complex reporting requirements. This allows Ford to spend more time and effort on
environmental improvements instead of data management.
The solution has since been extended, in line with Ford’s specific requirements, to cover
comprehensive plant-specific metrics including energy, water, waste and overall performance
against environmental objectives and targets. A regulatory module was also added which allows
Ford to store facility and regional environmental regulations to support manufacturing operations.

The extended solution has been deployed throughout Ford’s manufacturing operations around the
world, including 70 manufacturing sites in 17 countries.
THE OUTCOME
The EMISSIONS logic solution enables Ford to consistently measure and monitor environmental
data. Ford has realised several other benefits through the implementation of EMISSIONS logic:
• Overall, Ford have been able to save time and effort in managing data and reporting. The
centralised gathering of data enables significant workload reduction and optimised usage of
personnel resources.
• Manufacturing plant managers are able to concentrate on plant operations and improving
environmental performance rather than tracking environmental regulations and data.
• Internal benchmarking can now take place between different operations to identify best-practices
and potential improvements. Data is used to establish detailed water consumption and waste
minimisation targets.
• Enables forward trades of emission allowances and supports financial accounting related to
emissions trading.
• Energy cost savings are expected based on optimized tracking of energy consumption and
project follow up.
• CO2 emissions related to future facility actions can be tracked and evaluated.
• The solution serves as a library of all applicable environmental regulatory requirements at the
local, national and international levels, preserving information critical to plant operations
regardless of personnel changes.
